21-9-2008 - Being Poorly!

My mood while writing this blog: tired and emotional

Why do we still have to get poorly when we are pregnant? Surely our bodies are under enough stress just carrying our babies without anything else coming along ! You see this week I have had 4 days off work with Gastro Enteritis , not sure if thats how you spell it but who cares its a nasty old bug when ya not pregnant let alone when you are!

Anyway it started in the we small hours of tuesday morning with severe stomach ache and well you know what I thought ,the same as all pregnant women would think, that I was going into premeture Labour , Big panic ! Until a few moments later I felt like the whole world was going to fall out of my bottom! Dash to the bathroom and well , yes it does or it feels like it does! So I start to relax and think thank god its only a tummy bug but then I remeber when I went into labour with my son , I totally cleared out my bowels just before the contractions started ! So, panic stations again! What do I do ? As I havent got a partner anymore (less said about that the better) Do I phone my good friend at this godly hour or should I wait and see if I have anymore pain?

I decide to wait and try and relax and low and behold about an hour later the pain strikes again folowed by another dash to the loo. Right I have now calmed down and think that yes it must be just a bug and try to relax and no more pain phew! I manage to get some sleep and once morning comes I take my son to school then back home for a day off work . I sleep most of the day and things seem fine no more pain ,until the next day when I seem to have this permanent stitch like pain on my left hand side . Im also feeling pretty grotty and light headed and start to wonder what this pain could be ! Could it be placenta abrubtion ? I quickly phone the docs and manage to get an emergency appointment because I have now looked up placenta abrubtion and symptoms include pain and light headedness, it also says bleeding which I dont have but better to get checked out and look silly than to ingnore something hey !

Anyway my doctor reasures me that I actually have gastro whatever and the pain is resulting from that , baby is checked over and is absolutely fine ! As soon as the doc has a prod around my belly baby is protesting by wriggling all over the place ! Heartbeat is fine and I am told not to worry and that I was right to get checked out , and to take the rest of the week off. So off home I go feeling so much better , well not better in myself Im still feeling pretty shit realy , but better for the fact that I know baby is fine!

The stich like pain came and went on and off for the next day then dissappeared altogether , just left me feeling even more lethargic for the rest of the week but at least I managed to get some afternoon naps in whilst I was off work and son was at school !

So what I want to say to any more nasty bugs that might be lurking around is " LEAVE OF US PREGNANT LADIES WE HAVE GOT ENOUGH TO DEAL WITH ALREADY!!!"

Anyway to all you ladies i hope you are all well and that the bugs are keeping away from you , but if you worried about any symptoms you may be having get checked out like I did even if its just for reassurance , Im glad i did and its always nice to know that your baby is doing well.

Im feeling much better now and its back to work tomorrow !
