05-3-2009 - HCG level results

After not seeing the baby on the u/s on Monday, my Dr sent my to get my hormone levels checked. She told me it was possibly an ectopic pregnancy, but most likely the baby was just too small to be seen. I should have been almost 8 wks pregnant, but due to my whaky cycles and breastfeeding we figure I must have ovulated really late in my cycle.

So the first blood test showed that my hormone levels were indicative of early pregnancy, levels that were too low to show any baby on u/s. A relief! I felt better after hearing this, but then my panic mode started kicking in again. I couldn't stop worrying that something wasn't right with this baby. So my Dr agreed to let me have a 2nd blood test to make sure my HCG levels were rising sufficiently. Well, they are! On Monday they were 1669 and 2 days later on Wed they were 3387! They doubled! My nurse said that this is exactly where i should be and that it looks like I am between 4 and 5 weeks along. I am SO relieved now. Now I just have to wait until our u/s next Friday to see the baby for the first time and hopefully get an accurate due date.
