24-4-2008 - My birth story

My mood while writing this blog: a happy mummy

I got took into hospital on my twelth day of being overdue i was so ready to have my baby i was so big and dieing to meet my little girl. I went in at 2pm the put in a peserie i was told i would be checked in the morning to see if they could get into break my waters but warned it could take three of the peseries to dilate mt enough for this to happen well by 5 o clock my braxton hicks were getting more and more painful i was in a prenatal assessment department for the night i by 9 i realised that the peserie had put me into labour my mum and Lenny were my birth partners they werent even aloud to stay overnight so i had to do all the earlt bits myself which was hell around bed time i was offferd some co-codamol and a sleeping tablet which didnt help i couldnt even sit down the pressure was so bad it also made me need to pee all the time i couldnt even sit to pee lol tmi anyways the pain was getting worse i wasnt settling so i asked for gas and air only to find out i cudnt get it at the pna dep but they did give me a small dose of morphine which was kinda crap and didnt do anything for me but i did manage to sleep a little bit by morning i was in agony they checked me i was in established labour and told they could break my waters i was just wating for my place in labour ward Lenny got aloud in about 10.30 i went for a bath and while i had contractions Lenny poured hot water on me that reallt helped defo being in the water was fab when i came out i was given a tens machine i liked this better than the morphine i got a wee sleep then by the time i woke up it was visiting time my mum n Lennies mum came up by then i was being sick with the pain while i was contracting . Eventually at 4.30 ish i got took through to the labour ward for them to break my water and start the drip . They cudnt get the needle into the back of my hand and had to get a specialist into do it blood was squirting from my hand by this time i was on gas and air and didnt care hehe ( the should sell that stuff honestly) they got the drip in broke my water i was 4cm . I lasted about an hour with the gas and air after they broke my waters and started the drip i gave in and asked for an epidural i was tired and knew the hard bit hadnt even started . The doc came into fit my epidural it took them three attempts to finally get in in 15 minutes later it still wasnt working at this point i am 7cm and not a happy chappy i started out by screaming fudge when i was in pain by this point i was screaming fuck i appologised everytime i said it though my midwife was cool too so she didnt mind anyways by the time the got sumone into fix it i was fully dialated i said at that point to not bother fixing it i was nearly ther but for some reason they fixed it anyway by the time i came to push i want completly numb but i cudnt feel the pain but i knew wheat was happening so i was happy with that i had been closing in on an hour of pushing when the midwife told me she thought i was gonna need an episiotomy and some help getting her out i said no way and pushed so hard my mum said i looked like violet bauregard in charlie in the chocolate factory when she turns into the blueberry just after a cppl of pushes like that she finally started to move they had a good trace on her heart which was perfect and decided to let me push for longer eventually after pushing so hard and nearly strangling Lenny our Little Lucy was born on the 08/03/08 weighing 8lbs 3oz at 00.17 i was like wow i was in total shock she was placed straight onto my chest but wasnt picking up to great so they rubbed her down and she soon came around i was checked over i had tore but i had a feeling i would anyway it didnt really bother me the midwife told me if i hadnt have pushed so well and because i was was so determined that i would have needed an assisted delivery . i did have a birth plan i wanted all natural water birth because i went overdue i cudnt get this but do you know what i dont care its just not important the only thing that matters is my daughter i would defo do it again i can look back at my labour with a smile on my face . its six weeks on since i had my daughter i breasfed her for the first three weeks her weight wasnt picking up though and made the decision to put her onto a bottle i am defo happy i gave it a try and would try again if i have another baby. Lucy is just so perfect she is my reason for living i cant beleieve she hasnt been here all my life after the problems i had early in my pregnancy im so glad she is here now she is sleeping next to me right now as i write this with a big smile on my face . xxx
