| 19-1-2009 - First prenatal appointment | My mood while writing this blog:Tired! |
Today I had my first prenatal appointment. I guess it went alright but not what I was expecting. First, they gave me a little gift bag with a nice canvas bag and a water bottle to carry with me and magazines, etc. The nurse was great too. Then I met with my doctor for a pap and STD check (stupid since I've only been with my husband but it's mandatory if you're under 30 there). The pap was fine and I was actually expecting way more discomfort or pain but he was quick and didn't poke around more than necessary which I was thankful for.
Then came the transvaginal ultrasound. At first he couldn't really see anything so I was scared but then he showed me where the gestational sac was and measured it. You couldn't see a baby but you could see the yolk (I think that's what it's called).
So come to find out, my bloodwork I had done 2 weeks ago and the ultrasound both show that I'm at 5 weeks not 7 weeks like we'd guessed based on my last period. And that's why you couldn't barely see anything in the sac. He said that is normal and he scheduled me another u/s in 2 weeks because the baby will grow by leaps and bounds by then and we should be able to see and maybe even hear the heart beat.
Now I'm back to waiting until my next appointment to see our little peanut. I was so scared something was wrong because the picture he gave me has a dark shape and then a circle like inside of it. But I looked at alot of u/s from 5 weeks online and alot of them look almost identical to mine. So I guess I can breathe easy!
