| 13-6-2008 - 21 weeks and OB visit | My mood while writing this blog:Ok |
Wednesday, 26 March
I went to see my previous Obstetrician yesterday. My midwife recommended it, since it is less than a year between my two conceptions. So I went and we spoke about my previous pregnancy, and he did an exam. Which was nice, I got to hear the baby's heartbeat, even if I didn't get to see him. He had two recommendations for me. One, that I get another blood sugar test done at 28 weeks. I've already had one done and tested normal, but he wants to make sure that I don't develop GD later in the Pregnancy. I'm not too worried about it, I was fine my last pregnancy. Two, he wants me to have another Ultrasound closer to my due date, to determine the size of the baby. Size is an important factor in VBAC's, since larger babies, stretch the uterus and scars more. He also said that 2nd babies are almost always lager than the first, and since my son was 9 lbs 11 oz. (12 days overdue) there is some risk of a large baby.
He told me that I am a good candidate for a VBAC, depending on a few factors. If I go into natural labour close to my due date, my chances of a successful VBAC are very high. However, if I go overdue and need to be induced they decrease dramatically. If I do need to be induced they will only do so if I have started to ready on my own. The baby will need to have dropped, and my cervix will need to soften and start dilation somewhat on it's own. They will not induce me using the prostagladin gel, since it causes a big increase in complications for VBAC's. So the only help I am allowed to have to induce labour is a pitocin drip. If I go overdue and have not begun to ready on my own, we will need to look at a repeat C-section. Basically we are all plannin gon a VBAC, and we will reassess at 40 weeks. I'm still hopeful for my VBAC, but if my midwives and the OB both think I need to have a c-section, I will not stress about it and just do it. As long as I get my baby in the end I'll be happy. :)
The Dr. measured my fundal height yesterday, and I'm measuring 22 cm at 21 weeks. So I'm already measuring large. :
