02-8-2008 - 39 weeks and waiting

My mood while writing this blog: Ok

So here I am, 5 days before my due date, waiting for my little girl to make her appearance. My son is napping and my husband is moving furniture, so that he can finish the living room and dining room renovations before tha baby comes. I guess he's finally starting to feel the time pinch. Everything is *supposed* to be done before the baby arrives, and he's always been a bit of a procrastinator. I've been living without a dining room or kitchen for the last month! and I have no running water on the first floor. This means I'm doing dishes in the bathtub, and filling water jugs from the upstairs bathroom. Our new appliances are getting delivered on Aug 14th, and he says he will definitely be done before they arrive.

On my last Midwife visit I was 50% effaced, but barely dilated. Only about 1 cm, enough to do an exam. My midwife recommended I start taking the Red Raspberry leaf tea, and the Evening Primrose Oil capsules now. She doesn't want me to take them internally though, just orally. I've been doing that for the last few days, but I've only had the tea once. It seems to be making a difference. This morning the baby dropped, and it is definitely noticable. My stomach isn't forcing my breast up like a shelf anymore. It's lowered, and I actually look a bit smaller I think when I check out the mirror.

My midwife suggested I have a stretch and sweep done at my next appointment on Tuesday. My hubby thinks we should just wait and see if things happen naturally before we force the issue. I tend to agree but I also think that it would be nice to attempt to deliver her before she gets too big. At my 37 week u/s she was estimated as being 7 lbs 3 oz., which would put her at about 9 lbs by her due date. I know that the size is just an estimate, but I tend to think she'll be bigger than that. My son was 9 lbs 11 oz. (12 days late) and both my hubby (9 lbs) and me (8 lbs) were big babies too. I think that I might change my appt to Thursday, and see if she comes by then. If not I think I'll probably do the stretch and sweep. Who knows, it might not even work anyway.
