02-10-2009 - U/S update and we are having....

Hello All,

I had my 18 weeks scan on Tuesday..sorry for the late update but I was busy for past 2 days at work..

First of, (((Drumroll Please))) ..We are having 2 boys (identical) !! yay!! We hoped for atleast 1 boy since we already have a daughter and my husband is the only guy in the family and he would be totally outnumbered if we have all girls..but now me and my daughter would be the minority..

Anyways, the scan went good overall except for few concerns..So far, they thought I am having dichorionic/diamniotic twins which is the least risk twins..but from the anatomy scan, my MFM believes I am having monochorionic/diamniotic twins, meaning the boys are in their own sac but shares one placenta.. Now this is somewhat more risky since they have to share nutrients equally and grow at the same pace failing which Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome might occur putting both babies in danger..So they want me to come for weekly scans for couple of weeks to measure the fluid level and monitor the twins closely..I am totally scared at the possibility of this but sincerely believe that God will take care of me and my babies and make sure everyone is healthy.

The other concern is for twin B, the right kidney looks little dilated..his other kidney seems fine though and his fluid level is normal which means he has urine output..There is nothing we can do for this except monitoring and praying that it resolves itself as there is no treatment in-utero..This has been my main concern but being the twins identical and having same genetic code, since twin A is doing good with his kidneys, twin B should be just fine..(just my opinion..to console myself lol)...

Both of the boys' hearts, brain & other vital organs look wonderful..Heart rate is at 150 & 158 for A & B respectively..

So that's the update from my scan..My next scan is Tuesday Oct 6th and another one on 12th Oct..crossing fingers and toes for my babies to do good in this scan and all the scans to come..I hope after these weekly scans, they will move me to 2 weeks growth scan...Too much U/S is making me so nervous eventhough I get to see my babies..
