| 12-5-2008 - Mother's Day 2008 | My mood while writing this blog:Ok |
I had a wonderful Mother's Day Weekend!
Mother's Day is May 10th in most Latin-American countries, so I had celebrations on both days.
On Saturday morning, I attended a lovely outdoor Mother Daughter brunch hosted by my sister-in-law. Here is a picture of me with my mother-in-law--not sure what was going on with my forehead, but I swear I don't always look like a Klingon!

I left the brunch before the real partying got started. While the ladies played mother/daughter games, I took a nap in my sister-in-law's room. My feet and ankles were swelling something fierce so when they didn't go down after my nap, I left--just as the women were starting to dance. Did I mention that every weekend in this family is a party with either a band, DJ or both? This brunch had a DJ. I can't wait until I can be a little more active at the parties! Here are a couple mother daughter duos going down the Soul Train dance line:
Following brunch, I went to BRU to exchange a gift and get some last minute essentials. I am finally to the point where I cannot even think of anything else to buy for the baby!
Later that evening, I went to dinner with my mother, grandmother, aunt, brother and our significant others and kids. It was a blast! The funny thing was that the restaurant was incredibly crowded and they didn't have our table ready for over an hour (even though we had reservations), but it never bothered me. I was so happy to be hanging out with my family and it gave me lots of time to hug and chat with everyone. My aunt kept telling me how great I look--she doesn't think I look bad at all, even though I feel like an elephant! The restaurant was very apologetic and nice about not being ready for us, they brought us free appetisers while we waited and they finally squeezed all twelve of us into an improvised big table set up, so it was an extra cozy dinner! Here are most of us waiting to be seated:

The next day was the big party with my in-laws. I have to say, that I feel soooooooo lucky to be a part of this wonderful family! My hubby's grandparents had 12 kids (6 boys and 6 girls) and all of their kids are married (no one has ever gotten a divorce) and all of the siblings and spouses are like best friends, and all their kids are like best friends, and now they are starting to have kids too. . . . So anyway, to make a long story short, there is a party just about every weekend in this family and they really know how to have fun! I have never been around a family where everyone genuinely likes each other and has so much fun all the time. The men all barbecued dinner for the ladies, there was a live band and a DJ and lots of fun games. I participated in the hot potato and musical chairs events, but sat out of the jump rope, three legged race and tug of war competitions!
Here are a couple of my hubby's aunts and his mother hamming it up with the band:

The hot potato finalists:

The Mothers against the little boys tug of war contest--I offered to be the anchor. Perhaps the mothers would have won if they'd accepted my assistance. . .

Anyway, I don't know if the pictures do this family justice, but I feel so truly blessed to be part of this wonderful family. I am looking forward to many more good times with them!
