| 13-2-2009 - Bumble Bees | My mood while writing this blog:Happy |
Life has been really busy lately. Work is starting to pick up. There have been may family things to attend to recently. With all of this, sometimes I forget to take a breath and really embrace my kids' childhood. With that, I mean that because I am so busy, I almost expect them to keep up. I ask extra things of them and sometimes become frustrated when they don't seem to be able to. I forget. I forget that they only have little legs and can only walk so fast. I forget that they have just learned to be potty trained and might have an occassional accident in a department store (because I was too busy to take them before we left the house). I forget they are now over-tired because I was so involved with getting my chores done, I haven't done nap time...on time.
Bumble bees. Bumble bees are what help me to remember that only five short years ago, Grace was a tiny baby in my arms. Last night, in the middle of the night, while I am nursing Carter, Grace walks into our bedroom. She is tiny and quiet and whispers...mommy. I ask her what is wrong and she tells me she had a bad dream and is scared to go back to her room. "Oh, honey...what was your dream about?" Her answer: "A bumble bee mommy. I was running away from a bumble bee and then he landed on the grass and I accidentally stepped on him."
Bumble bees. Of all the horrible things I had imagined that she might have had a dream about, bumble bees are what scared her out of bed. Bumble bees remind me that my children are still so small and the littlest things can be so big to them. I am smiling now and I think that for the rest of my life, every time I see a bumble bee, I will take a moment and remember last night. Her scared little face and my dear husband grabbing her hand, walking back to her room, and whispering about how they are going to investigate her room for any bees and kiss the bottoms of her feet to make the pain go away.
Bumble bees.
