August 6, 2009
Dear Carter James,
I feel so terrible; it’s been forever since I have written to you. Well, the last time I did write, you were not walking yet. You started walking shortly before your first birthday and are a pro now. Some of the new things you are doing include:
Turning off the television. You especially like to turn it off while Jake is watching. The first few days he would get really aggravated with you, but now…he either ignores you and turns it back on or grabs you by the waste and pulls you down.
Eating things off the floor. We never had a huge problem with you putting things in your mouth as a tiny baby, but now that you are mobile, you are finding all kinds of little tiny bits to put in your mouth. You hate for us to take it away, so you have learned to shove it in very quickly or try to hide it behind your back. Neither is effective and generally ends in you getting very mad at us.
Talking to the dogs. Every single morning, one of your most favorite things to do is to lean against the baby gate into the mud room and have a morning round of well-wishes to Ellie and Oliver. Oliver doesn’t pay you much heed, but Ellie loves every bit of attention she can nab.
Waving at the pictures. Another morning ritual takes place as we are walking down the stairs each morning. Every day, we have to stop and point out the pictures for you to wave and say “hi” to sissy and brother. Too cute!
Becoming one of them. You have officially become one of the kids. No longer are you a baby that sits and watches the action. You are right there with the kids, running through the house, climbing on Daddy, helping out with arts and crafts. Everything they do…you want to do too.
Books. You love books. Your favorite right now is, If you see a kitten. You, like Grace and Jake, love the last page, where it says, “If you see a crabby crocodile….yell HELP!” You love to yell the word “help” with great enthusiasm.
Garbage. We have never had a child so fascinated with the garbage. We cannot turn our backs and not find you in it. We have never had to put child locks on any of our cabinets for either of your older siblings, but we might have to get one so you aren’t shoving Jake’s thrown-away sandwich in your mouth.
Blowing kisses. Awwww…there is nothing sweeter than one of your kisses. Sometimes we are even blessed with a two-handed one. Smooches to you too!
Group hugs. Any time Daddy or I or one of the kids are hugging, you rush right over and instigate a group hug. You get so excited to have all of us hugging and laugh and giggle and push your little face right into the middle. Love it!
I love you Carter James!
Love Always,
Mommy
