May 6, 2010
My Dear Sweet Babies,
Ah, I am having a sentimental moment. I was just reading my previous letters to you and am getting misty-eyed. You are all so beautiful. I wish I could record every moment of your lives, because there is never a dull moment; you are always discovering something new, changing and growing.
Grace, you just celebrated your 7th birthday! Yes, 7th! I can hardly believe it. I still remember the day you were born. I was so lost; but, in a good way. Now, I look at you and you are dressing yourself, picking out your own “stylish” outfits, trying to put your hair in a pony tail! You painted your toes all by yourself for the first time last weekend! You have tried before, but they ended up really messy. This time, they were wonderful. You are little reading machine. I am in awe. I love to read and it really excited me to see you enjoy it so much. Last night you read for an hour and a half! I think that is a really long time to read for someone your age. Your reason…you wanted to be the first person in your class to have all five hours of reading time in for the month. It’s the 6th and you have all month to get it done, but your competitive, determined nature is propelling you to get it done in the first week.
Jakie-baby, my kissy bear. I love that you love when I call you this. I know this is fleeting. In another year, you will be embarrassed. But right now, you look so proud and smug when I call you by this name. You are also my little snuggle-bug. You like to curl yourself right into me. I can hardly ever finish the newspaper in the morning without you ending up in my lap. You are getting so big too. You are trying out new things…especially the ones that press our buttons. I have to keep a sense of humor about these antics, otherwise I would cry. You are extremely stubborn and the harder I work to stop you, the harder you work to keep going. Examples, last night on the car-ride to pick up Grandma, you repeatedly played your harmonica in the car. I reminded you that we don’t allow loud noises in the car. You quieted down for about two minutes, and then tried to slip a fast one in. After doing this about 5 more times, I told you I was going to take it and throw it out the window. My ever attentive Grace replies, “No you can’t Mommy. You could get a ticket for that.” Ummm…too smart you are. Oh, and then Gracie says, “You could actually get arrested.” Jakie, you cued right in onto the ‘getting arrested “ part and told me I would go to jail. So then, every time I would ask you to stop, you would get this serious look in your eye, squinting them a bit, and simply say “jail.” Hahaha! So funny!
Carter! Oooh, if I could just bottle up your sweetness, there would be no need in the world for sugar. I can’t believe how much you have learned these past few months. You are talking up a storm. You even have your very own knock-knock joke. It goes like this…Knock-knock. Who’s there? Not meeeeee! You repeat this joke over and over and over. You laugh every time. I love it! You love to play in the playroom by yourself. Jakie invades your space every once in a while and a battle ensues. You sit in your little chair with your feet propped up on the shelf and watch your shows. You are currently watching Barney, Wonder Pets, Blues Clues and Little People. You love playing with cars and trucks. You use the Little People garage and launch them off behind the bookcase…over and over. Then, you get frustrated because you can’t reach them and we have to get down on hands and knees to pull them out! Oh and you are now taking everything potty. This morning, it was your electric (toy) drill. A couple days ago, it was Jakie’s stuffed frog.
Well kiddos, I better get going. I have to pick you up from the bus stop and daycare and head off to gymnastics. Busy day. Great life.
I love you all with my whole heart!
Love Always,
Mommy
