| 11-7-2009 - I THOUGHT THIS DAY WOULD NEVER COME!!! | My mood while writing this blog:Ok |
I reallyyyyyyyyyy thought this day would never come! Well, I was wrong!!!! Nichole Muna was born by 12noon, on July 10, 2009, after about 15mins of pushing. It was fast and scary!
Well, its was a short labour, but a longgggggggg story. To cut a long story short, I got cervidil on Wed night (8th July) at 41 weeks and 5 days. Was to get 2 doses of cervidil (since I was neither dilated nor effaced) and then oxytocin. By Thurs night, I was checked and told I was barely 1cm dilated. I got the 2nd dose of cervidil that night and sadly, was sent home, but with a shot of morphine cos my contractions were getting painful but not closer together. (I have been having strongggggggg BH for over 8 weeks.). All night I was still in pain with the contractions, but the morphine helped me get a bit of sleep. Had to call my sis and she came over to stay with me. By 6am, I couldnt take the pain any more, so I askd her to take me into the hospital. By 7am, I was ready and off we went. By now, I was silently crying from the pain, I had no energy to even cry out. My sis was supposed to just drop me off, cos she had to work but when we got to the hospital, I could only get out of the car, the pain wouldnt let me walk and I held on to my sis and cried silently. She was scared and confused cos I couldnt even say a word to her! Too much pain. A man standing by rushed to us with an empty wheel chair and they both got me to L&D floor. The nurses took one look at me, all I could say was "cervidil" and they had me in a bed immediately.
One nurse started to check me and immeditely she put her hand "down there", my water gushed out. Now I was getting realy scared! She checked me and calmly said: "Wow! Your baby has got a headful of hair. We need to get you to a delivery room now! You are a good 8 - 9 cm." All I could think of was: "OMG! What about my epidural?!!". They quickly wheeled me to a delivery rooma and tried to calm me down when I kept saying "...my epidural...my epidural...my epidural" over and over again. I didnt know that I could do this any other way, but with an epidural. Well, they said it was too late for an epidural, gave me laughing gas and tried their best to encourage me. I could not have done it without the help of my sis, my undesignated labour partner. lol.
When I started pushing, baby's heartbeat would drop, so they had me wait for my doc who was delivering another baby next door. While waiting, I INSISTED on an epidural since they were making me wait and I got one. One word: HEAVEN-SENT!!!!!
Doc came after what seemed like a longggg wait and after a few pushes, she said she needed to help baby a bit so they got the vacuum thingie and asked to me to push hard. One push and her head was out, 2nd push and her entire body was out!! She didnt cry but the docs didnt look worried at all, so I tried not to. They cut her cord and handed her to a team of "people" next to us, who got her crying out LOUD in a second!
SHE IS BEAUTIFUL!!! I CANT STOP STARING AT HER! I CANT BELIEVE SHE IS MINE and she was totally worth every sleepless night and d rest of the "joys of pregnancy", every horrible contraction and every pound that I added!
