30-12-2008 - Doctor's Appt

My mood while writing this blog: Ok

Went to the doctor's yesterday. My appt was at 2:30. When we got there the room was almost full. After waiting about 15 minutes I hear two ladies talking, they're both going to see my doctor. One was scheduled for 1:55 and one for 22:15. It was about 2:45 by this point. So, after waiting a good hour we are called back. The nurse says "we're getting ready to have a baby soon". I agreed, not much longer. She's a very sweet woman and we chit chat and she tells me that today the doctor is going to check me and do my final labs. I was a little confused because from what I have read and seen, the doctor doesn't start checking you until 36 weeks. So I asked what the bloodwork was for. She said to recheck iron and some other stuff. I thought this was really weird since my last appt was only less than 3 wks ago and they discovered my iron was low and I have been on iron pills for just about 2 wks now. So, I am put in the room and told to strip from the waist down. The doctor comes in about half an hour later and sits down and asks me about contractions. I was like no, no contractions. She said well, you're going to need to start having some soon but a lot of first time mothers don't, so don't be concerned. She starts looking at me chart and is like wait a minute, you're not 36 wks. I was like no, almost 32. So the nurse got confused when she was looking at the due date wheel thing and put me down for a 36 wk exam. The doctor said she was confused when she came in and saw me undressed and then when i said I wasn't having contractions she didn't know what was going on. So anyways, I tell her I have been having lots of vaginal pressure so she says while you're undressed I will go ahead and examine you. Cervix completely closed and thick. Let me tell you that exam hurt! I was still hurting 20 minutes later when I was checking out. Well, I explained to her I had fallen while cleaning house Sunday and I fell on my side and baby was kicking immediately afterwards. She asked if I had any bleeding or anything as a result and I said no. Well, she tried to find the baby's heartbeat and couldn't (although DH and I thought we heard it a couple of times but maybe it was just my body sounds, who knows) so she wanted me to go for an ultrasound just to verify everything was still okay.

By the time she was thru with us it was 4:30 and all the offices were closed. So this morning I am awaiting a call to tell me when to go in for an ultrasound. While I have felt the baby move last night and am waiting for her to start in this morning, she's a late riser, I am still kinda freaking out that something is going to go wrong.

I had a dream last night that DH & I had 4 kids - 3 boys and one girl or two boys and 2 girls, can't remember which. One was named Jacob and he was 19 and driving a mustang. Lol. I think maybe that's my mind's way of reassuring me that baby is fine. I did remember to bring a video tape this time in case we are sent to the u/s place that records them.
