| 26-1-2009 - Baby Shower - Family | My mood while writing this blog:Ok |
Well, my baby shower given by my sis and mom was yesterday. It was at the clubhouse of my cousin's apts which are only about 5 minutes away from our house. We got there about 15 - 20 minutes before it was scheduled to start and my sis, cousin and her roommate, mom, and another aunt were already there. Shortly thereafter my other cousin, my SIL and 4 of my friends showed up. My granny was sick and couldn't make it but sent a present with my aunt.
It was nice to see my one aunt as I haven't seen her in a long time. I usually only see her at funerals. Depressing, I know. My uncle passed several years back and she's a little out there, but a good person. The dreaded ex-coworker didn't even show up. I was happy about this but seriously, after you demand to be invited and harass my mother into giving you an invitiation, you don't even show up? What was the point? To get attention? Well, that made my day brighter. Anyways, DH's sisters didn't show up either which meant no kids. When we got home I asked about them and he said his sister (she's a single mom with 2 kids and a hosue pymnt) said something about not having any money and didn't want to come without a gift. I told him he should have told her it doesn't matter and her to come anyways. I felt really bad that not being able to afford a gift made her not come.
Well, the place was decorated very nicely, my sister had found this ridiculously adorable pink stork pen that everyone used to sign a little baby shower book with best wishes. Mom made cupcakes and there were lots of finger foods and veggies and fruit. And the most delicious punch with sherbert in it. Yummy! After we all ate they brought the never ending stream of presents over for me to open. Mom just got me a small basket of goodies because she said she would wait until everyone else got us stuff to see what we still needed. She did get a very adorable little doll that has a diaper on and says "It's a Girl". My sis got me a small bag of goodies, saying the same thing, including a cute little "Princess" sign and a kit to make handprint and footprint and hang them up and the hangings perfectly match the nursery decor. My SIL got me a handprint kit except this one is a plaster one as opposed to the ink one and some cash. I got so many more things, My one friend is a Hello Kitty freak so she got a Hello Kitty toothbrush and meal set and band aids, along with some cute clothes.
My one cousin got some very nice burp cloths and changing pad and blankets and one of the burp cloths was embroidered with Lorelai's name. That almost made me cry. My other cousin got me a beautiful baby's first year box to keep all the momentos in and a baby book and a bath set with all the essentials and a music box (this was oddly enough exactly the same as the first gift we received for baby girl several months ago, so i am not sure what we are going to do with 2). My aunt got me some diapers and burp cloths and some of the cutest little outfits. My other aunt got me a cute little onesie that says 50% momma 50% daddy 100% brilliant, a cute sleeping sack, some receiving blankets and some more stuff including Roca Wear booties. I LMAO at that. I doubt my aunt even knows what Roca wear is. My granny got me some wipes and diapers and a bath set.
My other friends got me some nursing pads, some burp cloths, a medicine kit for baby, and a beautiful little dress. I am sure I left out stuff because it is too much to remember. Everything was precious, but I do wish people had of gone off the registry a little more since I now have 3 baby books and 2 identical music boxes. Lol. A couple of my friends included gift receipts, but since everyone took time to pick these things out for us, I went ahead and took tags off and decided to take a pic of Lorelai in each outfit that was given to us and send to the person who gave it to her. Even if she just wears them once I am sure the person who gave it to us will enjoy seeing her in their gift.
They did give out the cutest little favors - sweet tarts shaped like bottles and buttons and such. And my sis made pink mints in the shapes of hearts and stars and I was pinned with a "mommie to be" pin. It was all great fun.
The downer is when we got home DH was in a major depression and as usual, wouldn't tell me what was wrong. So I finally asked if it was because his family wasn't invited (his mom's side). He shrugged and said nah, but I could tell. That made me feel like absolute shit. I don't know why his mother and aunt have to be such horrible people. I love him so much and it hurts me to see him upset over them not being invited, but I keep thinking back to how I was treated and I just cannot budge. So, I just told him I was sorry his day was ruined by not having his family there and left it at that. Hopefully he realizes and is upset that his mom & aunt are so horrible and that's the reason they weren't invited as opposed to him blaming me.
My work shower is Thursday. We will see how that one goes!
