My mood while writing this blog: doing good |
Well I finally got some time to sit down and write this blog. It's been a busy week. So wed I had my 28 week dr. appt. I decided to head in early and do my glucose test before my dr. appt since the hospital really isn't close to where I live and I didn't want to have to drive back this week. So I get there at 1:45. That would give me an hour for the test and then I could walk upstairs for my dr appt at 3pm. Well of course they are totally backed up at the lab. They don't call my number until 2:05, but I figure I should do it now anyways because I hadn't eaten since like 11 in the morning and I have no plans of going that long without eating again if I can help it. Me and baby were hungry. So they take me back and give me the little bottle of stuff. I had heard about orange flavored stuff or fruit punch flavored stuff. They didn't give me any options just handed me this bottle of clear stuff. It tasted like a flat sprite gone horribly horribly wrong. I can only be grateful it was ice cold which was probably the only reason I could drink it down. So I drink it down as quickly as possible so I can get out of there quickly and hopefully not be too late for my appt. So finally my hour goes by and of course the whole time the place is practically empty. Clearly it's only busy when I've got places to be. They draw my blood and I rush upstairs as quickly as possible. I've been talking to my husband during this time just to find out he's running late. Very late. Later than me and I'm starting to freak out that he's not going to make it in time. Well it turns out I wasn't too late for my appt, and I figure I usually sit around in the waiting room for 10-15 minutes so he should make it in time. Not today. They call me back really quick to do my screening and then straight into the room I go. I start getting all upset. I take a minute to go to the bathroom because that glucose stuff ran right through me and then I cry. A bit ridiculous I admit because it's not the end of the world if he misses an appt but of course that doesn't stop me. So i go back out all teary eyed and listen to the heartbeat which cheers me up a little. Then the nurse goes out and I told her to tell the dr to take her time since I was still waiting on my husband. Well luckily the dr. took a while, but she still came in before my husband got there, but it was only a couple minutes and then he arrived. So crisis was averted. So I saw a new dr. this time and I loved her. She actually explained things to me which I really appreciated. She told me about the results from my ultrasound at 21 weeks and told me everything was measuring well and looking great which I was pleased to finally here. She also talked to me about braxton hicks contractions and told me some exercises I could do to help relieve this back pain that is becoming all too frequent. Then she mentioned that my blood pressure today was a little bit higher than they are typically comfortable with. For the past 3-4 years my blood pressure has been right at the line between ok and high. So she said that while my blood pressure is what's normal for me, me being all preggo they want to start watching me a little closer just to be sure I don't develop preeclampsia. She said that I don't have it now, so I'm not too worried at this point, but they did want to get some base tests on me just in case I develop it later. One of the tests they want me to do is get a sample of my urine over a 24 hour period of time. I have to go get a jug from the lab and a little hat thing to catch my urine and for 24 hours collect it for them in the jug then bring it back. Has anyone else had to do that? I've been so busy I haven't had a chance to go by and get it yet, but it sounds interesting to say the least. They also want to do some more blood work. One thing that was a little exciting was they said they want to do an ultrasound every 4 weeks now to see how the baby is doing to make sure that the placenta is working as it should, because apparently that's a sign of preeclampsia. They also said that at 36 weeks they are going to want to hook me up to monitors to listen to the baby's heartbeat twice a week. So I'll be making more trips down to the hospital, which I don't really mind, but I'll get to see my little girl more which I'm quite excited about. I'm a little worried about developing preeclampsia, but she said it's all just a precaution at this point and there is still a good chance I won't. All in all it was quite an emotional drs appt, but a good one because I finally felt like I was being treated more than just being seen, if that makes any sense. Well I hope you ladies are doing well.
