My mood while writing this blog: Happy |
Stephen was due on a friday (aug 24, 2007). At my 39 week appointment, my dr said I had 2 choices which were to come in to the hospital on wednesday (20th), and take a pill that is supposed to help me dialte and/or start labor, and if that did not work then come back on friday (24th) to be induced. Or I could just wait it out and see if Stephen would come out on his own. I chose the 1st option because I was just ready to have my baby! Come wendesday early morning a little bit before 1 a.m., I felt my first contraction and got so excited! They were like somewhat a bad mentstral cramp that lasted 45 sec to 1 minute long. They were not regular at first. I was using the contraction timer online to time the constractions and they varied from 30 min to 2 min apart. Then finally around 5 a.m. or so, they were 15 minutes apart. I debated whether or not I should keep my 7 a.m. appointment with the hospital for taking that pill. DH and I deciced to go ahead and show up and let them know I was already contracting, and see if they will send us home to wait till contractions were 5 minutes apart. We showed up and they checked me to see that I was 3 cm dialted and admitted me in right away. Around 8 a.m., my dr showed up and I was still at 3 cm. Dr then broke my water and had the nurse add pitcoin to my iv. That was a double whammy!!!! I went from to not so bad menstrual cramps, to "give me drugs!!!!" cramps. Nurse gave me something to take the edge off for a moment and that made me so sleepy and I was in and out for a while. I did not remember much of what was going on. Then finally I started to feel the pain again and nurse asked if I wanted epidural, and I said yes! My DH was really good everytime I had a contraction and they were back to back! DH really made me focus into his eyes when all I wanted to do was just pull my hair out, and that helped a lot. The epidural did not work the first 2 times, then by the time I got the 3rd epidural, ahhh relief! But I was already at 10 cm by the time I got the epidural and I was so numb I could not feel if I was pushing correctly or not. Dr then tried to use the vacuum to get Stephen out. Stephen did not budge at all with the pushing and vacuum going on at the same time. Dr suspected that he was too large to pass through the birth canal so I ended up having C section. Stephen was born at 1:03 p.m. The pictocin sure made me dialte soo fast! I have read some of the blogs of thsoe who had c section and said that the recovery was not so bad but for me it was awful! I had the c section videoed, and I saw that the dr had to use something that looked like the jaws of life to open me up ( i have short torso because I am 5'2 tall, so that's probably why) and I think that thing made me soo sore from crotch to my breast. I am hoping that the 2nd time around will be much better. After all that happened, I just fell in love as soon as I got to hold my son. I would go through all that again :-)
