My mood while writing this blog: happy |
Well, I've not written for a while... largely because there hasn't been much to report and work has kept me so busy that the little things that have cropped up I really haven't had the time to write down. This last week, however, has brought some news very worthy of reporting. Last Wednesday, after a late meeting at work, I was stumbling bleary-eyed to my car and I tripped over and well and truly bit the dust - grazed my knee and all. Anyway, aside from a very sore and bleedy knee, I felt fine. I actually think I managed to fall quite gracefully (well, maybe not gracefully - but I didn't hurt the little beans anyway). The next day I was due to see my Obstetrics-trained GP (I see her in between seeing my OB/GYN) and she sent me off for an ultrasound just to be sure I hadn't done any damage. Not only did I get to see some very strong heartbeats and beans that were measuring almost a week larger than they should be - but the sonographer said he could see kidneys in one and a bladder in the other! Now, to the average person kidneys and a bladder may seem a little passe - but to me? To me, it was the most amazing news I could ever have gotten - for it was the result of absent kidneys and an absent bladder that my little Zander passed away last year... and my greatest fear was that my worst nightmare would play itself out again...
Admittedly, even after this good news, I was still a little reluctant to celebrate. But, the next day I was due to have my Level II ultrasound (basically, it's an ultrasound done on a high quality machine and performed by an obstetrician who specialises in diagnostics in utero). He not only saw my full bladder on the screen - but he was fairly certain that he could identify a full bladder in each of the beans too! It's not complete confirmation - but in short, there wouldn't be urine in a bladder if there wasn't kidneys that put it there... fingers crossed he's right...
I think I might just be starting to get excited...
