My mood while writing this blog: pretty cranky |
I dutifully went to my obstetrician's appointment yesterday. Waited the hour to get in to see him and, of course, paid the $130 dollars for the privelege. I was pretty anxious. I knew he'd do a quick ultrasound and I was really hoping that he would confirm what the specialist had said three weeks back - namely, that the little beans had a bladder each which is a "very good sign" that they both have kidneys. I began the appointment telling him that I had been well physically, but that I had been struggling with anxiety. You would think that with that knowledge he would have really tried to set my mind at ease...
Instead, he popped the machine on, blocked my view, said nothing at all for five mins (I thought he couldn't find heartbeats and was really starting to freak out) and then said "Well, I can't see a bladder in either of them. I thought I could see one but then it disappeared." WTF? Not only did he make me feel even more anxious, but he stole the good news (that I was desperately clinging to) from three weeks ago... I now have to wait until tomorrow evening to find out the final diagnosis from the specialist... it's going to be a long wait I can tell you.
Anyway, I was almost in tears as he packed up the machine. I went back out to his room and went to pull out the list of questions I had written down to ask him and he just said "see me in 6 weeks" and ushered me out the door! I couldn't believe that this guy, who was my obstetrician with Zander and knew exactly what the last 12 months has been like for me, could be so thoughtless... And, unfortunately, living in a relatively small country town, there are few options as to who I can see throughout my pregnancy. I think I'm going to have to have a word with him next time... his bedside manner needs a serious adjustment and I think I'm just the girl to give him a gentle reminder...
Thursday 4.45... hopefully that appointment will bring more positive news...
