15-9-2009 - Baby is here!

I came into L&D last night after lots of contractions and back pain. When they checked me I was having contractions about 1 minute apart but my cervix was still closed. They said maybe they'd need to induce me in the morning. In the meantime they checked the fluid and it was at 3 (supposed to be at 10) so they admitted me and gave me an IV and took blood work. Less than 10 minutes later doctor came in and said they had to do an emergency c section. I had HELLPs which I've never heard of. They had to knock me out rather than get an epidural because they said I could hemorrage from the bleeding from the needle. I didn't get to see the baby be born and neither could my husband, he wasn't allowed in the OR. The baby was born at 2:05am and was 6lbs 1 oz, 18 inches.

Oh and it's a girl....still no name ;)

I haven't been able to see her yet. She's in NICU because she needed oxygen. I'm on medication for the HELLPs and can't get up because they worry I'll bleed. The doctors and nurses keep telling me that if I wouldn't have come in we both could've died because my platelets were so low and my liver enzymes were so high my liver would've ruptured. I feel so blessed to be okay and for my baby to be okay.

Just a reminder if you're having symptoms or feel like something is not right...go in!!! It's better to be safe than sorry.

congrats on the birth! hope you & baby go home soon!! what kinda symptoms did u have besides contractions? were u very swollen? my dr. took blood work last week to check platelets..i hope im ok..this is sooo scary!

I'm very glad you and your baby girl are OK. It's very scary to think that you're not the only one in this week with this syndrome, Emilyz77 had an emergency section for the same reasons a few days ago apparently. Hope the bad luck stops here!

Even having gone to nursing school, I hadn't heard of HELLP so I'm glad to hear about it now!! So happy that you are doing good...will keep you and your little girl in my prayers!

I feel your pain, I too just had the same condition. Id never heard of it either. I know just how miserable your feeling. My little man is still in the NICU too. Try to rest as much as possible. Im sure your little girl will recover quickly. Im 7 days out from the beginning of my bout with it and Im feeling nearly back to normal today. Im glad your both doing well today, I hope they can get you down to see her soon. Congrats!

I have heard of HELLP syndrome - its in the What to Expect Book.Here is some info about it for the rest of the mommies:HELLP syndrome is a life-threatening obstetric complication usually considered to be a variant of pre-eclampsia. Both conditions occur during the later stages of pregnancy, or sometimes after childbirth.HELLP is an abbreviation of the main findings: * Hemolytic anemia * Elevated Liver enzymes and * Low Platelet count* I am SOOOOOO glad to hear that you are OK. Please take care of yourself and your little one. Post pics when you can and let me know when you decide on a name. I like Elise (wink). PLEASE keep me updated. You and your family are in my thoughts.

I'm glad everyone is OK in the end! Hopefully you will get to go see her soon. I wasn't allowed to go see my last daughter in the NICU until the day after she was born and I know it's very stressful

You poor thing :( This is very scary, but I am so proud of you and thankful that both you and baby are ok. Wow, you always have to trust your gutt no matter what. You're a very strong Mommy and your baby girl will have a story to tell ;) Just rest and don't do much. I'm so excited to see your pictures, but first of all take care of yourself and of your little angel. I'm so happy that you both are ok :)))) And once you're home let your hubby spoil you ;)

OMG, I'm glad you and your baby girl are okay! I never heard of Hellps, Thank god you were having the contractions, otherwise you may have never known and lost your baby. I hope you have a great recovery, and you and your baby girl get to go home soon!
