31-10-2009 - low platelets happyMy mood while writing this blog:
happy

Well I found out that I have what they call pregnancy thrombocytopenia which means that my blood platelet count is very low and that it will effect my blood to clot. I found this out when I went for the gluctose test and a regular blood test at 26 wks. I was told that the good news was I passed the gluctose test but that I had this problem. I am 29 wks now and I have to get my blood taken every Wednesday until I deliver. We will have to induce because I will have to be treated prior to having the baby so that I don't bleed to death during delivery (great). This happens in 5% of pregnancies and they don't know why. The awesome news is the baby will be fine and is doing great-AMEN The bad news is what if I got hurt prior to treating this I would probably not make it as my blood wouldn't clot (very scary). I guess they can't treat it sooner because it would harm the baby so I just have to be very careful. I go in on 11/16 so I will talk to my OB about the plan and action-lol.

I am so excited for the holidays and we also leave for vacation Monday to take my 3 yr old to Disneyland-yippee we thought this would be good to do before our little miracle arrives.

Hope evryone is doing well:)

I see that your post is old any your baby is here (congrats) I was just recently diagnosed with Thrombocytopenia (at 24 weeks) and will be going for weekly blood work. I was just curious about the pre-delivery treatment you received and if you or baby had any complications. Thanks!

I have heard of that condition before. I think you will be fine. It sounds like your docs have a good handle on it. :)
