14-11-2008 - INSULIN SHOTS i dont knowMy mood while writing this blog:
i dont know

I cant do it! I was reading the instructions last night of the insulin pens and saw that I have to actually stick the needle inside me then press the top to release the medicine and hold it there for at least a 5 second count. There is no way!! I seriously thought that it was like the finger thing where you dont see the needle and click it and it puntures you and thats it. There is no way I can actually stick the needle in myself. Last night I ate right and my number was 97 after 2 hour which was great, this morning it was alittle high at 97 again but thats only 2 points no big deal. The pharmacy didnt have the needles ready yesterday so I havent gotten them, but I am not going to go pick them up. Im just going to now follow the diet to the letter, maybe eat less fruit, and pray my numbers stay down. If they dont then I will attempt the shot after a couple of days. Im such a wuss I know but I cant do it, I am just going to eat right and start walking ALOT. I told the nurse I had been drinking lots of Orange Juice because I had a cold and wasnt taking any medicine for it, she probably did not mention it to the dr because Ive been doing some reading online and it says Orange Juice can spike your blood sugar. I just wont drink anymore for the rest of the pregnancy because I can NOT stick myself with a needle. Another huge problem I had was that I skip breakfast, not because I want to but mostly because I sleep through it and we eat dinner pretty late. So lunch numbers are high because I havent eatten all day so any carbs I eat will shoot up then morning are sometimes high because I wasnt able to break down sugars after dinner. I know what I have to do, I just need to now do it. I have a new found respect for those people with diabeties that have to inject themselves many times a day, I am so sorry and I wish you didnt have to, you are braver than I, because I cant do it. :(

I have GD also and I suck at this diet thingy. I think if I had someone else to cook every meal for me I could do it but I am on the run constantly with my 8 year old and it's like I don't have time for dieting. But now they want to send me to the high risk Dr for him to put me on insulin. I'm not afraid of the needles so I know I could do that with no problem but I know I need to eat better and I just can't. I'm just glad to know I'm not the only one that didn't follow the diet plan very well. Good Luck with the diet or insulin which ever you choose.

hey girl, I work with people who are diabetic, or pre-diabetic. I know it's difficult to stick yourself with a needle, but it's not for you. I know you already have 2 kids so if you can go through chilbirth, you can stick yourself with a needle. the needles for insulin pens are almost hair thin and are not long at all.. I'd say MAYBE 1 cm. long... tiny little things. maybe hubby can help you with it so you don't have to look. just count to 3 stick youself, puch the top of the pen down and count to 5 after and bam all is over in less than a minute. good luck. remember it's for your baby... also if you had stayed within the diabetic diet to begin with you may not be in this boat, but that's in the past so put ya balls to the wall an do it! :-)

You need to do what the doctor has ordered. Changing your diet won't change the fact that the placenta is blocking your natural insulin. I had to give myself shots from 24 weeks on and the first time I did it, I cried like a baby because I thought I couldn't do it. Then I realized that you don't even feel the needle when it goes in. I didn't have the pens, I actualy had vials of 2 different kinds of insulin and had to measure out every dose. Just remember this is not for you. You are doing htis for yor child. THere can be serious complications even later on in life for your child if you don't take proper care of gestational diabetes. your doctor would not have ordered insulin if they thought it could be controlled by diet alone.

I feel so bad! I would come do it for you if I could. Is there not anybody that will do it for you? Its not that bad and when somebody else does it you dont think about it as much. I agree on trying to eat only whats told and see if your levels stay good b4 starting injections. I pray that you can keep the levels low!

i really dont think i could give myself shots. I got lucky and passed my glucose test. Hopefully eating right will keep your numbers where they need to be
