19-12-2008 - 1 week into the new job

My mood while writing this blog: so tired

Ok , so its been a week since i began my job as a new nurse in the hospital and i'm so tired. I don't meen to sound lazy or anything but i used to work around 3 to 4 days a week 5-7 hours each day, so i had the luxury of being able to sleep very well. I would feel sleepy if i slept less than 9 hours a day. Well i'm now sleeping 4-5 hours a night, and having to wake up at 450 am to be at work on time. I'm just so much more of a night person than a day person and if i was single and not pregnant i would definetly work nights but when i told my boyfriend i wanted to work nights he said he wanted me to work days because he wanted to spend more time with me and he hated spending his nights alone(my other job was a night job). I'm also sick, runny nose, coughing, sneezing, burning eyes, hoarse voice. I shouldn't go like this to work since i wouldnt want to infect anyone with the virus but i'm just starting and would not be good for me to call in sick on my first week, also i'm not taking care of patients yet so i will be a big girl and put up with it. I'm excited about this job, i'm just so tired all the time, so anyways, i've been in orientation this whole week and have done lots of reading policies and education modules and done a lot tests that need to be done to make sure you understand the reading material. Cant wait to actually start taking care of patients. Everybody seems really nice and i'm just still so nervous about everything. I havn't told my supervisor yet about me being pregnant. I told the HR lady and she said she would leave it up to me when i wanted to tell my supervisor. I wear scrubs so they cover my pregnancy belly pretty good. Also its such a big hospital and i dont have any seniority so my parking is a 10 to 15 minute walk to the hopital but they do have a shuttle bus that you have to be there a little early to catch since it comes only every 15 minutes. So if you miss it you have to wait another 15 minutes or start walking. For next week my manager was pretty nice and said i could take off wednesday and thursday for christmas so i will be going to kansas christmas eve 2 see my family and coming back on christmas. well hope everybody has a merry christmas!!!!!
