08-7-2008 - My Baby Sister Is Knocked Up

We found out the last weekend of June, when my family was vacationing in Carlsbad for Legoland. Thuan had called me Saturday night but didn't want to ruin my trip. That evening in Carlsbad, I had major contractions. So serious I thought I was in labor. Luckily after an hour of pain, I was alright. So it wasn't until Sunday evening that I got the news. Apparently, an anonymous lady called my Mom to tell her that Jean was about 3 months pregnant. Mom was in so much shock that she forgot to ask who the informant was. They came home and confronted Jean, which it took her awhile to fess up. Jean still wasn't sure whether or not she was because she had been bleeding of late, hence her reason for visiting the WIC office. I hoped and prayed that my 17-year-old sister was not pregnant but soon learned that the tests ran positive. By last Wednesday, she was confirmed to be 8 weeks pregnant. Now the only other alternative is to have her wed the wierd guy that impregnated. My sis has a thing for guys off the beaten path. This one is 19-years-old, currently unemployed, has tattoos all over himself with a shaved head. From Tina's description, he's a wanna-be-thug. All I can do now is hope that this guy has good intentions with my sister. I won't lie and say that I'm not disappointed in my sister. I hoped that she would prove herself to be an intelligent and driven young woman but unfortunately, she made a mistake that'll soon take over her life. Everything will be much more difficult for her from here on out if she still wants to continue on with her education. Let's hope that she'll be able to conquer it all.

I need to tell you, these days the "only option" for mothers to be isn't just to wed the guy that knocked them up. Plenty of women are staying single to raise the baby because sometimes it's a better situation than being in a bad or abusive relationship.

I'm a christian, so I understand the views of marriage first then baby or at least marrying the guy who gets you pregnant. You should seriously gauge the intent of this guy and how mature he is. Because the last thing you want is for your little sister and her baby to end up in a bad or abusive relationship.

BTW, my stepsis got pregnant at 16. I'm almost 22 and pregnant now by the man I married nearly 3 years ago. our first baby.

Who knows... this may make her grow up quickly.
