24-11-2008 - Should I try to find out early?

My mood while writing this blog:

OK, So I'm not sure if I should try to find out early if I'm having a boy or girl. The ultrasound tech said you can usually tell the sex of the baby by 16 weeks. I will be 16 wks at my next doc appt on Dec. 19th and I can request an ultrasound then. My doc usually does ultrasounds at 20wks to find out the sex of the baby, but that will be in mid January. Should I just wait & save it for later when its almost DEFINITE we will find out? Or try early? Not really sure how much money my ultrasounds cost....or how much my insurance covers.

I want to know soooo bad.

Anyway, things have been going pretty good lately.. I'm still tired all the time and I don't have much energy but I suppose I came out lucky this pregnancy and I only got morning sickness a few times. (I can count on one hand!) Certain smells still make me nauseous but I think I only threw up maybe 3 times so far this whole pregnancy. I have to watch what I eat. Greasy, fried foods , or lots of meat will make me sick. I almost got sick at the table from eating pizza the other night. I also can not OVER EAT. I can only eat small portions of food at a time because if I eat too much I will feel the need to throw up or something. I also can not brush my teeth on a full stomach. (I have a bad habit of brushing my tongue and all it takes is for me to gag once and all my food goes in the sink.) lol pretty nasty, but I used to make myself throw up sometimes by doing that before I was pregnant. Its just worse now!

Everytime I sneeze or move really fast I get these SHARP pains on both sides of my lower abdomen. Doc says its a good sign and that I'm stretching but it still hurts and causes me to worry a little bit. They go away pretty fast so thats cool.

1 more week left and I enter my 2nd trimester, YAY!

for some reason I am almost convinced that this baby is going to be another girl. sexratio.com quiz said there was like a 85% chance it was a girl. Old wives tales say if your face breaks out, its a girl and my face just started breaking out. The chinese birth calender even said this baby was a girl. My 3 yr old said she wants a baby sister. My husband told me it was probably a girl.

I would really love a son, but I'm experienced with girls..and girls are fun. I know if I have a girl I will probably end up getting pregnant again in the future to try for a boy. lol. If I have a boy I can just call it quits and have my pair. BLAH who knows. I just want to find out.

I would say check with the insurance and see what it is going to cost you to find out early. If you really want to know go with what your heart tells you. We have an u/s on the 17th of Dec and we will likely confirm the sex then so we can tell our families over the holiday season. My advice is to do what you fell is the right thing to do.

Why make your insurance pay for an ultrasound that is not necessary? The do the ultrasound at 20 weeks to check organ development and most are lucky enough to findoiut the sex at thea point. I say wait If it isn't necessary

ID SUGGEST THAT U FIND OUT COZ U WANT TO SOOO BAD.I FOUND OUT AT 14 WEEKS(YEAH ITS EARLY) BUT GUESS WHAT,THE TECH WAS RIGHT AND IM HAVING A GIRL SO YA TECHNOLIGY IS PRETTY GOOD.U CAN JUST MAKE SURE AT YOUR 20 WEEK APPOINTMENT.GOOD LUCK
