25-7-2008 - DR.\'s appt for July 23

So I had an appointment with my midwife on Thursday and it went off without a hitch. They weighed me and I had only gained 2 pounds since my last appointment in June. I couldn't believe it because I've really popped out since then and my appetite has increased tenfold. I've only gained 8 pounds total so far but I have a feeling I'm about to make up for that scant number in my 3rd trimester. That's alright with me, no complaints here! My midwife measured my fundal height for the first time and I was right on schedule, coming in at 27 weeks. That was a surprise also, as I have been feeling a little on the small side, but again, I guess I was wrong, lol. She listened to the baby's heartbeat and it was a healthy, thumping, strong 160 beats per minute. That's what its been at every appointment except my last one. She said I could expect Braxton Hicks contractions to start anytime, and I've been on the look-out for them the past few weeks, but I haven't recognized any. The only thing I've noticed is a rock hard uterus after orgasm but it's painless. My breasts have been leaking colostrum since week 18 or 19, but besides being a little inconvenient at times, everything's been great. The only thing I've had any trouble with is killer back pain, mostly in my lower back but sometimes my sciatic nerve acts up too. She said she would be glad to refer me to a chiropractor and recommended a pregnancy girdle to help ease the pain and offer support. I've been dying for another ultrasound to see how our little girl is developing but didn't know if I'd be offered one. I asked about it and she said I would get one around 36 weeks and I could request a 3d/4d. I had read somewhere the best time for a 3d u/s is around 30 weeks or so because the baby actually looks like a baby at that time, for good pictures, but also because the womb isn't so cramped as to inhibit the photos. I'm a little worried about how the pictures will turn out since I will ready to explode at that time! I also had my glucose test that day but I haven't heard anything about the results yet. I'll update if I don't pass it.

All in all, everything has been going so well, I couldn't be happier. I feel her thumping around all the time and Daddy's been able to feel her movements for almost 2 months now. I love the look on his face when we're watching my belly and it looks like a wave going across it or he feels her give me a swift kick/jab/elbow/headbutt. He loves it! I go back for another appt. in 2 weeks and I'll post another blog then. Hope you all are doing wonderful!
