| 21-2-2009 - Xavier's Arrival | My mood while writing this blog:In Love |
After thinking I would be pregnant forever, I finally started feeling like labor was on the way around 2:00 am on Tuesday February 17th. I woke up with really bad cramps in my tummy so I decided to go to the bathroom. I noticed some pink discharge (sorry if tmi) and got really nervous so I went to go wake the hubby. I stayed up for about an hour thinking "what if this is it" but eventually got to tired and fell back to sleep. I woke up again around 7 with no doubt about it contractions and realized that this was really possibly the real thing. The funny thing about it was that I had my 39 week appt later on that day so I decided to wait until I went to the dr to find out what was going on. I had already gone to labor and delivery twice and been sent home on a false alarm and DID NOT want that to happen again. We went to my appt at 11:45 and of course I was told I was only 1 cm dialated and still only 70% effaced and was totally discouraged. I left the office with a 40 week appt. date, an induction date just in case he still hadn't come yet and in tears just thinking that I could possibly have to continue feeling like this for days seeing as early labor can last weeks. I went home still having horrible cramping in my belly and I decided to call my mom (who was scheduled to come in town Thursday) and tell her that I was in early labor in case she wanted to come the next day. Needless to say, my parents were in town by 10:00 that night! Here's where it gets good. By 12:30 that night my contractions were about 3-6 minutes apart and I was told to once again go to L&D. I just knew they were gonna send me home. When I got there I was still only 2 cms. but my contractions were so regular they didn't want to send me home. Next thing I knew, my water was leaking and they were hooking me up to an IV. This was it, the beginning of labor. I was in labor for around 16 hours before I got to 9 cms. By this time my epidural was starting to wear off. They had me on Pitocin but that made my contractions come too fast which in turn made the babies heart rate drop a little each time. By the time I got to 9 cms I stayed there for another hour. So long in fact that the nurse was telling my that a c-section looked to be in my future. By that time I was in so much pain that I could care less what they did as long as they got him out. The dr. came in, checked me and asked me to give him a small push. I did and he said that I would be able to finally deliver. After 17 1/2 hours of labor it took all of 20 minutes to push my little man out. He came into the world with his eyes wide open weighing 6 lbs. 4 oz and measuring in at 19 1/2 inches. I know this story has been long but I could tell it a thousand times. All I can say is God is good. I am so in love with my little man I could cry every time I think about it. I finally have my little angel in my arms and my life could not be sweeter.
