| 20-8-2009 - Strep B Update | My mood while writing this blog:Ok |
Ok, so I found out today that my Strep B test came back positive. I was really worried about about it because when I spoke to the doctor the other day about it she said it would mean I have to be induced and can't just wait for nature to take it's course. When the test comes back positive, it means they give you antibiotics every 4 hours while you are in labor, and that you have to have at least 2 doses before the baby comes. My labors don't normally last 4 hours, so they would not have time to treat me before she comes.
Well, I called the nurse when I got the results because I was concerned that if I go into labor early it would mean that I would have to have a c-section. The nurse said if they don't have time to treat me, they will allow me to deliver and just watch the baby for 48 hours for any symptoms. If she shows any, they give her antibiotics but that I don't need to worry. Also she said that when I go in to be induced they will wait at least 2-3 hours after the first dose and then start to induce, that way I get enough to protect the baby.
I am not sure if anyone else has tested positive, but I thought the information might help even though I am sure most of you have long enough labors to not really have to worry about it.
