| 17-9-2009 - Getting my tubes tied | My mood while writing this blog:sore and uncomfortable |
So my doctor believes in giving the body a little time to rest after the birth before she will do the tubal ligation, so after spending all those hours in labor and not being allowed to eat, you start over. After midnight the evening I gave birth, I got nothing to eat or drink in preparation for the surgery at 9:00am. I was dying for somthing by 5, at 8:30 the doctor came in and told me there were 2 c-sections in front me and it might be a while. I wanted to cry.
It turned out to be a real blessing that they took me late as the hospital photographer came in and wanted to take the babies pictures. I had already gone on line and looked at everything they offered, so I had the package picked out and had bought the outfit I wanted her pictures taken in. The woman told me they mail the pictures to you, so I had to explain that I dont have mail delivery. She was so sweet she offeredto develop the pictures and give them to me the same day. The pictures were incredible.
So, they finaaly took me back for the surgery just before 11:00am, I was very nervous to the least. I couldn't reach my boyfriend because he stayed with me until 1:00am and then after hour drive home, we talked on the phone until 4:00am. So they took me back and got me ready, they had left the epidural in from the delivery so they could do the surgery. They gave me a shot and waited a few minutes for it to kick in. The shot made me very tired, but didnt numb me, they were not sure what the problem was, but they gave me a second shot, we waited again but again I just got more tired. They ended up giving me the medication 4 times and all it did was make me exhausted. They called in a couple more doctors to find out what the problem was and discovered the cathater had moved during the night and the medication was not going where it was supposed to. They removed the cathater and gave me a spinal instead. I was so tired I passed out during the surgery.
When I woke up, not only was I numb, but I couldnt feel or move my legs. It scared me, but they said everything went fine and it would wear off soon. They were sorry about the problems they had with the epidural, and all the nurses were all talking about it the rest of the time I was there. I was so glad to get out of recovery and back to my room, the baby has been crying for a while wanting fed, and she was so red from crying I felt really bad. I couldn't walk for a while, but everything wore off eventually.
They gave me tylenol 3 and motrin for the pain, but that was not working so they got me percoset instead. I was taking 2 at a time with the motrin, I can't believe how much it hurt. Also, I was very bloated because they fill your stomach with air. I am still very sore and have a lot of pain from the surgery, more then from the delivery. My stomach is still swollen also. I am glad to know I don't have to worry about birth control anymore, but it would have been good to know ahead of time that it would hurt this much. Good luck to everyone else who is going to get theirs done. I hope you guys have better luck.
