18-4-2009 - Short birth story

My mood while writing this blog: relieved

Well my big man arrived 9 days early on 4/14/09. I knew i was in labor after i saw the tinged mucous every time i wiped. Then came the consistant contractions. I labored at home for about 11 hours and then went into the hospital 10pm when I found out i was 5.5cm dialated. They broke my water and attempted to give me a spinal (which didnt work) and 3 epidurals and for some reason my spine just wouldnt take to them. With a c-section just around the corner due to his heartrate dropping...i asked them to check me one more time. Thank god i did....i was at a 10 and they said i could have him natural. I pushed for a total of 15min and he was arrived at 2:37am. He wasnt breathing and had to be swept off to the n.i.c.u for about 3 hours. He weighed a whopping 9lbs 12oz. I couldnt believe it. They said it was Gods way because i would have never delivered him naturally if i had and epidural. Dont know if any of you have heard of this but i ended up getting a spinal headache from all of the holes in my back leaking fluid. They thought it might get better on its own but since it didnt i had to go in Friday and get a `blood patch` done in my spine. They take blood from your arm and inject it into your spine to clot the holes. Between that and the delivery i have never felt sooooooo much pain in my life but in the end pain is bliss......look at my beautiful baby. We call him `Moose` LOL

Awww... Congrats again! I totally know the spine thing, although I never had a spinal headache after 3 births with either a spinal or epidural but my spine doesn't seem to want to take them either so it always takes many tries and it hurts so friggin bad.... I guess I should feel lucky I didn't get a headache from that because I had heard of that before and I heard they are quite painful... I'm just so happy for you on your new big boy and thank you for your Congrats :) ~hugs to ya gal.... D
