Colette-Shirley-Lamb`s birthstory

On thursday the 9th I had a Dr apt. When my Dr had checked me he looked at me and said OK she should be here any day now. I was soooo happy to hear my Dr say that because over the past few days including that morning I had been feeling very strong contractions so I knew the end was near. When hubby and I got home we went on a long walk and came home and tryed some of the accupressure I had been reading about. At this point I was still feeling strong contractions but they were no where near every 5 min. The whole day went by so I gave up the notion that I would go into labor that evening. Hubby and I got into our pj's and snuggled on the couch to watch some Tv. While watching TV I began to notice that my contractions were comming closer together, I still wasn't convinced that it was labor tho and wanted them to be stronger and closer together before we took the journey to the hospital (mind you I already had real labor that stopped on its own 3 times before this and I was tired of going all the way to L&D just to be sent home 6hrs later!) So I calmly told hubby "I think this might be it, Im going to go relax in the bath for a lil bit" I wanted to labor at home for as long as I could since I just really don't like hospitals. I got into the tub and at first the water felt great, and I just layed back and timed my contractions.... then out of nowhere they got awfully intense and about every 2 min. I was literally rolling around in the water to get comfortable....on my back to on my knees nothing seemed to help. It was now 1:15am 10/10/08 and I yelled for hubby to come help me out of the bath and to let the hospital know I was on my way (our hospital is 45min away and the L&D nurse is oncall) I got dressed and was getting into the car when the contractions were all of a sudden not so bad? I was like great! There going to just stop like last time, but instead of staying at home I decided to go to the hospital anyways to get checked (I figured that the hospital would want to keep me seeing how my due date was tomorrow) so the whole ride there I was stairing at the clock and timing the contractions.... still every 2 min...but still not so painful. huh? We arived at the hospital at 2:00am and the ER nurse got me checked in.... I had been laboring (the real deal) for about 4-5 hrs so I expected to have made some serious progress, so when the L&D nurse called me and told me that I was still only 2cm and cervix was pretty thick I got really discuraged thinking they are going to send me home =(. Someone else was also in labor so my Dr was at the hospital so he came to my room and checked me as well and said I would probably be there for a while, and since my contractions were so close together he wanted to keep me there to monitor me before sending me all the way home (almost an hr away from the hospital) I did everything I possibly could to dialate and efface...sat on the birthing ball, walked, and even squat & tailor sat.... 5 hrs later the nurse checked me again and nothing! They we're contemplating sending me home but I begged them not to, I told them that I knew this was the real deal and that I was having a N.A.P problem and that this always happens with my labors. They decided that I was probably right and keep me. Mean while the other girl in labor had her baby and they had moved her to a post partum room and wanted to move me into the bigger L&D room so the L&D nurse and hubby started to unplug the monitors and statred to push my bed out of the room, well the very second they started to move the bed my bag of water broke and literally flooded the bed.... I exclaimed to the nurse MY WATER BROKE! I was completely shocked because my water has never broke on its own before so I was completely over joyed and knew the the hospital would have to keep me now. I looked at hubby and smiled and told him our lil girl is finally coming! The nurse and hubby got me settled into the other room with a clean bed and the nurse wanted to check me again, as she did she looked up at me and smiled and said you were right your now at 4cm and 100% effaced! I knew it wouldn't be long since my contractions were much stronger after my water broke and sure enough about 1hr after the nurse checked me I looked at hubby and exclaimed I feel like I need to push, but how can that be its only been an hour???!!! Hubby said I get her to come check you again. I knew I couldn't push yet but the urge was getting stronger and when the nurse checked me she said your 9cm! and baby is at 0 station! OMG! I looked at hubby and started to cry, he asked me what was wrong and I told him I was scared out of my mind! This is where he became my ROCK ladies! He would rub my forehead and talk me through every contraction helping me breath so I wouldn't push yet untill I was a full 10 (this is harder then you know not to push when all you want to do is push!) about 30min of this the nurse checked me because I was yelling that I could feel my baby in my hips and sure enough I at 10cm and ready to get her out! The nurse had me do some pushes while the Dr walked in the room. I was pushing with everything I had for about 20min and she was not coming out. So the Dr (not telling me) decided the best thing to do was to cut me. After he did I managed to push her head out but again she wouldn't budge past that, the Dr literally had to get his fingers in an wiggle her sholders out, wow and yes a bit painfil! But the sec the sholders came out so did she...... Ladies as you know this is the most wonderful moment when they place your baby on your tummy, I grabbed her and hugged her and cryed my eyes out with tears of joy. Colette was born 10/10/08 at 10:57 am weighing 7lbs exactly and 20 in long, She has been my biggest baby.

Madisyn-Gayle-Lamb`s birthstory

Saturday March 6th, 2010 my hubby and I woke up early and got ready for the day. We had an appointment to visit the Labor and Delivery section of St. Mary`s Medical Center. We arrived at 8:30 am and took the tour and got to meet the staff, after that we headed over to Walmart and picked up the last baby items needed (ie: Diaper genie, some extra diapers and such) then headed home.

Once home hubby started getting ready for work, he mentioned while getting ready that he didn`t want to go to work that day and rather spend time with us.... I jokingly said `who knows, maybe Madisyn will decided to come today` and we both laughed like yeah right since my contractions had stopped for 2 days and I didn`t even feel like anything was gonna happen anytime soon anymore.

So while daddy got ready for work I played with my 14 month old Colette, While I was playing I got a strange sensation in my pelvis and something told me to take a picture of my belly so I grabed the camara and took a few shots, as I looked at the pics I thought to myself `I think I just dropped` hmmm.

I kissed daddy good-bye for work and finished playing with Colette and layed her down for a nap, I sat at the computer for a bit to play some games and to write a few emails when I felt some fairly strong (but not at all painful) Contractions.... I thought to myself YEAH RIGHT and just ignored them because I was tired of thinking `THIS IS IT`.... So after about 5 of those contractions I felt like I had to go to the bathroom. So I went to my bathroom and sat on the toilet and nothing... huh??? But then I looked down and saw blood... Not alot (probably about 2-3 tablespoons) and then I realized `Oh my god this is it!!!` I got on the phone and called hubby and told him that this was it and he needed to come home right away! I got Colette together and packed her bag for grandmas and waited for hubby to arrive. He came home and we left right away even tho my contractions weren`t strong or even that close but we had approx 1hr- 1 1/2hr drive ahead of us and didn`t want to tisk anything.

We arrived at the hospital around 4:30-5pm and I was starting to feel fairly uncomfortable, The L&D nurse looked at me and said `yeah we are going to have a labor!` Apparentlty there had been a few false alarms and nothing exciting lol.... They set me up in a room and checked me, I was dialated to 4cm and was about 75% effaced. My Dr was out of town so his fill in decided to admit me. They monitored my contractions and babies heartrate for about 30 min when all of a sudden Madisyns heart rate dropped down to nearly nothing... The nurses came flying into the room and moved me on my side and started rubbing my belley while the other got me oxygen. Just at quickly as it dropped it went back up... The Dr came in and checked me again and I was 5cm dialated now and he told me he wanted to break my water and put an internal monitor on Madisyn so he can rule out any type of real concern about her heart rate, I agreed and they broke my water.... Right after they broke my waters they asked if I would like any type of pain management. I informed them that I want and prefer to give birth naturally and didn`t want anything. (My nurses were also midwives and were thrilled to hear this) My hubby stayed by my side and coached the entire labor, which I will admit was the most intense pain I have ever felt in my entire life... During transition I would tell Doug (my hubby) that I couldn`t do this anymore, or I would ask him to help me lol. All of a sudden I felt the undeniable urge to push... and yelled out `I need to push please I need to push`, When all at once my midwives and Dr came flying into the room and got me set up. I pushed twice and her head came out. Thats when the Dr noticed that her cord was wrapped around her neck TWICE! They looked at me and said I needed to give it all I had and get this baby out now.... But I was yelling that I couldn`t..(she had wide shoulders and was having a very hard time getting past that point) Thats when my midwife nurse looked at me and with a serious but concerned face said `honey you need to get control and find it in you to push her out` I realized at that moment that this was serious and gave it all I had...OMG!!! I thought I tore as the final push got her out.... They rushed her over to the baby warmer and checked her out. Thats when the Dr told me about her cord and her broad shoulders, even tho she was only 5lbs and 12oz! Thank GOD she was born 18 days early!!! He then informed me that I did a great job and .....(my favorite part) that I didn`t tare, lasserate or anything!!!!! Woo Hoo. The nurse told me how proud she was of me, and that hardly anyone goes natural anymore. We were discharged less then 24hrs later and are at home now enjoying our newest member.
