Birth Story...

ok so i had my 37 week check up at 9:30 am friday october 12th.

while i was in the waiting room i felt a tiny trickle ..i had lost my mucus plug the week before and assumed it was just more mucus plug. when i went to do the urine sample i looked in my panties and there was just a small wet spot.. no mucus ..so i went back to the waiting room to be called in.

9:30 i get in the office and tell the nurse i felt a *trickle* and wasn't sure if it was my water or just my mucus plug or if i peed ( don't lie you have all done it!) she took my blood pressure, it was so high she thought the machine was broken, then she left to get the docter. i then felt a trickle, so i stood up and GUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

my water broke! i took off my pants and stood there giggling uncontrollably while my grandma ( a retired nurse and mother of eight) touched my belly and said " your having contractions" i had been felling "something" for a week but had NO idea it was contractions..*whoops* so 15 min later the dr came in and saw the water on the floor and my lack of pants and quickly called Labor & Delivery, then checked me. i was 2 cm dilated! she sent me to labour and delivery, where i spent the next 6 hours pain free and BORED wandering the halls in an open back hospital shirt trying to speed things up.

by 4:00 i was still only 2 cm dilated. i still hadn't felt a contraction.. they were coming but I'm a baby making machine and didn't feel them. ..soon after my 4pm check they started an IV (pitocen) to speed up contractions. then they had to break my water AGAIN. 10 min after they broke it i felt cramping and my contractions were still just MILDLY uncomfortable. after an hour of that they upped my dose.

i spent 1.5 hours with contractions that were 50-60 seconds long and 30-50 seconds apart...which isn't good. but i wasn't in pain so i didn't alarm the nurses and when they cam in to check me they looked at the papers and said ' OMG DON'T YOU FEEL THOSE" and they brought the dose down...*whoops*

it was now 6:30 and i was still only 4 cm dilated when they checked my blood pressure at 6 30 it was dangerously HIGH. so they said " IF you want an epidural take it now or you'll run the risk of having to have a C-section" so i got it at about 6:45 maybe 7. and i fell asleep. i really wanted to wait until i was at least 7 cm before getting the epidural because i herd it would slow things down...

BOY was i wrong!!

45min later i woke up to a LITTLE pressure, nothing serious, so my dad gets the nurse and tells her. she goes to check me and as soon as she looked she said "a little pressure?? are you kidding me? your 9.5 cm i can almost see his head*

i started pushing at 8 ( i waitted for my mom to come back from getting food and called my best friend.) they sent my aunts, brother, and dad into the hall because * it will take a few hours* i pushed once and the nurses ran into the hall to stop them saying the baby would be there in 20 min TOPS. so they came back. at 8:14pm he was out:D

my mother boyfriend and his mother were in the room. along with two drs. 1 RN and three students. and my dad, brother, two aunts, my best friend and her boyfriend were in the hall waiting. my bestfriend missed the birth by a few seconds!

it was AMAZING.

After he was born i started to pass blood clots that were a little larger then my dr.s fist ( srry tmi) and i was loosing LOTS of blood ... I started to hemorrhage. The placenta was completly intact so the dr. started to massage my uterus ( that was unpleasent) LOL then i was given more pitocen, and a shot in my thigh to make my uterus contract. Befor i even knew it could have bin serious it was over :o)..so..aside from that little diddy it was PERFECT! lol

born october 12th @ 8:14pm, after 14 min of pushing.

he was 7lbs 5oz, 19inches long and had an apgar score of 9/9

hes beautiful.

i spent about 48 hours in the hospital.

i breast fed Jayden for 11 weeks, but had to stop because i did not produce enough milk. i went to a lactation consultant every monday for all 11 weeks, and although she encouraged me to keep giving the small amount i had (one oz every 3 hours) i decided to call it quits. i tried everything from increasing my calories and fluid to pumping every hour on the our to brest feeding every hour on the hour to taking strong medication ect.. in the end i was too stressed out about it and it was becoming an unhealthy obsession. in the end you have to do what's right for you and your baby.. and for us breastfeeding just wasn't it.
