Paxton-`s birthstory

Paxton’s birth story begins Wednesday Oct. 22, I had an induction scheduled for that day at 8p.m. The hubby and I live about a mile from hospital so we hopped in the car and drove the whole mile, we were actually a little late because hubby was watching a TV show and wanted to watch the end of it. So we get there and even though I had registered and been there before I was registered, which took about a half hour. After that I was finally put in a room (Which is the room that we had toured). When I got to the hospital I was at 3-4 centimeters dilated and 75% effaced so around 10p.m I was finally put on Pitocin to get my contractions started. Throughout the night they kept coming in because they couldn’t monitor my contractions. They switched the monitor that sits on your belly and that worked for awhile but then they couldn’t find the right place to monitor them again. Needless to say I did not sleep; one because of nerves and two because they kept coming in and moving the monitor. They tried doing a membrane sweep first thing Thursday morning which just caused me to pass a lot of blood and huge blood clots (so gross). Around 9 my doctor came in to check me and I was only at 4 centimeters and still at 75% and the baby was at -2 which is still high. She debated for awhile whether or not to just break my waters, she decided she would because she said she thought they were about to go on their own because they were so tight but figured she might as well do it since she was down there. My water breaking was definitely a strange feeling. They told me since I was already at 4 I could get an epidural anytime I wanted. Well seriously 20 minutes after she broke my water I was ready for the epidural. My contractions were coming hard and strong and were extremely painful. I had to wait a little while for the anesthesiologist to get out of the O.R. because he was doing a c-section. I was in excruciating pain; I can’t even begin to explain the pain I felt in my hips. The only way I can explain it is like they were being ripped apart with every contraction and my contractions were only a minute apart. The anesthesiologist finally came in and was having a hard time getting the needle in straight. He had to re-poke me about 4 times before he finally got it in. They gave me a dose which after awhile took the edge off. Well with each contraction the pain was getting more intense instead of getting better. They informed the anesthesiologist who again was in with a c-section so I had to wait. He came out of the c-section because I was in so much pain just to give me another dose. Well after that my hips started to not only feel like they were being ripped from my body but also they felt like they were on fire. The second dose of the epidural was also not working, and by that time my doctor came in to check me again and come to find out I was complete! I went from 4 centimeters to 10 within about 2 ½ hours. The pain for me was so unbearable. They told me that the fire feeling in my hips was my nerves going into overdraft and that I was probably having hip labor. They again called the anesthesiologist out of the c-section just to give me another dose. At this time I turned to my hubby and told him I was scared because if the pain of pushing him out was worse than the contractions I was having there was no way I could do it. They started getting everything ready for me to start pushing. My little man was still at -2 so they told me I needed to be a good pusher otherwise I would be pushing for hours or they would have to take him by c-section if I didn’t get him out and he became stressed. At this time my feet started to tingle…I WAS FINALLY FEELING THE EPIDURAL!! It kind of freaked me out at first that I couldn’t move my legs but the relief from it was amazing. I had some feeling in my left side but none what so ever in my right side. I couldn’t believe the epidural started working right before I had to push. My doctor was there from the beginning when I started pushing. Because Paxton was still at -2 when I started pushing and because he got stuck behind my pubic bone for awhile it took me about 45minutes to push him out. The doctor told me she was going to do an episiotomy because she thought I was going to tear and tear in a funny way so I told her to do it. He started crying before he was fully out and the doctor told him that he shouldn’t be crying already he wasn’t even born yet which made everyone laugh. When he was out he actually started to pee haha. They put him on my chest and honestly I was in shock I just stared at him, I couldn’t cry or do anything but look at him in disbelief. He weighed 7.1 lbs was 20 inches and scored a 9. He did have a cone head when he was born but has gone away. So Thursday Oct. 23 Paxton Dean Lofton was born and I would do it allover again!
