Well, sorry it took so long to get my birth story up, ladies! Layla is 2 weeks old today and things are going SO wonderfully! I am enjoying my husband being home with me as well, although he is going back to work starting next Monday. I have truly missed everyone, but find it hard to find time to get on here anymore! So, without further wait.....
I had a doctor's appointment on my due date August 20th where I was only 2 cm dilated and the midwife decided to strip my membranes. That evening I started contracting at 4PM, but nothing severe enough to worry me yet. I contracted all night and all morning the next day. As the contractions grew stronger and more intense, we decided to go on to the hospital at 2PM where I was gently told that I was only 3 cm and I could go home for another bit still. After being hom for a few hours, we headed back to the hospital where I was 4 cm and they admitted me and active labor had begun. Labor was HELL! There were no complications though and Layla's heartrate was awesome, however the midwife determined I was going to have a rather large baby and was trying to convince me to get an epidural. After long debate I decided against it and the doctors were called in just in case I was unable to push her out without extra help, which I was NOT going to let happen. After 15 hours of active labor I started puching and only pushed for 58 minutes! Layla made her entrance into the world at a healthy 9lbs. 1 oz without any extra help from the doctors. Apparently, the midwife thinks I could have had an even bigger baby, but I really dont want to test that theory! She had a FULL head of soft brown hair and was just absolutely perfect!!
Once in our postpartum rooms, Matthew and I enjoyed a couple of truly sleepless nights and attempted feedings, but Layla and I took a little longer to take to breastfeeding. With true determination though, we finally got the hang of it and never had to introduce a bottle, pacifier or formula! Sadly, when we were supposed to be leaving, we found out Layla had a bit of Jaundice which landed us in the hospital an extra two days. Those were the HARDEST days because Layla had to be placed under these bright lights for almost 24 straight hours and had to have these little goggles on her face, it was TERRIBLE! Finally, her levels came WAY down and we were able to go home on Saturday (she was born on Wednesday morning).
Now that we are home, life is GRAND! We are both healthy and SO perfect that it is remarkable! Layla is growing like a weed and is over 10 lbs now! What a little chunk, although she is so long that you would never think she is that chunky! How adorable she is and how blessed we are!!!
Thanks for all of your thoughts, prayers, and concerns! I will be back on here more now so please feel free to write me!!
