My doctor decided at the beginning of July that I should be induced. He told me the best date would be July 13th. I was shocked!! I was so excited though because I couldn't wait to meet my little girl. My birthday is July 12th so now her birthday is only one day after mine. So at 11:30pm on July 12 (my b-day) we checked in the hospital to be induced. I was so so so soooooo excited. When we walked into the Labor and Delivery hallway I had to laugh because as some of you may know...I'd been to L&D quite a few times with false alarms and I always had the same nurse (Jan)...and it just so happened that Jan was gonna be my nurse on the night I was induced. I was so excited!! So, a little after 12 she inserted the pill that helps dilate the cervix. They also gave me an Ambien to help me sleep. Well, my poor hubby hadn't eaten all day and it was finally catching up with me. He said, "I'm so hungry, but I don't want to leave and miss something." I told him to go ahead because they weren't even starting Pitocin until 5am (5 hours later). So, he went to Wal-Mart since it was right down the street..and picked up a few things. Well, while he was gone I guess I got bored (I don't really remember all this because the Ambien did not make me sleep it made me doze off, wake up, say something stupid, and doze off again and repeat the whole process lol). Anyway, while he was at Wal-Mart I called him and I guess I wasn't making any sense at all because the whole time he kept saying, "What are you talking about?? You're talking out of your head." Then he laughed at me and told me he was on his way back. He made a video of me when he got back by the way. It was more like a video of him standing by my bed talking about how excited he was lol. I just saw it recently and don't remember ANY of it. Lol. So at 5am they started Pitocin and by 7 it was time for shift change and Jan had to go home =( but it was okay because I had a REALLY nice nurse (Stephanie) when she left. So, my doctor came in and broke my water around 7 something-I don't really remember. Maybe it was closer to 8. It felt like I used the bathroom all over myself in that bed..EWW. Anyway, it was so weird!! I expected it to hurt but it was just a little uncomfortable. Then I kept thinking well that wasn't so much water. The doctor told me I was dilated to 3 and I could have my epidural if I wanted. Well, good thing I said yes then because the next contraction after that hurt sooo bad. The anesthesiologist who did my epidural was downstairs with a patient so it took almost an hour for him to get to me. By then, I was so glad to see him lol. So, my hubby got to stay and watch them do the epidural. It was the strangest thing. It really didn't hurt at all except for the shot he used to numb it (and that just felt like a bee sting). My right leg kept moving on it's own while he was doing the epidural lol. He said that was normal and it would stop. The whole time my nurse Stephanie was standing in front of me holding my hand and I kept telling her...my water is still leaking everywhere. I was suprised at how much there was. She said it was normal. Well, after I layed back down she was like, "Wow, you weren't kidding...there's a puddle here." LOL. Apparently the epidural was good because I told the anesthesiologist he was awesome lol. So after that I don't really remember much except my right leg was way way more numb than my left and I couldn't move it. My Grandmaw kept having to move it back to the middle of the bed for me lol. The nurse (Stephanie) came in after a while and said I had to wear an oxygen mask because the baby was looking a little stressed. After that I dozed off a lot. Then, Stephanie checked me and said I was ready to push. She called my Doctor and he told her that he was in the hospital and to go ahead and start pushing. Then it was time for shift change again and Jan was back lol. My mom thought this was so funny because Jan got to go home, sleep, and come back and I was still there and still in labor. So, Jan took over helping me push. Then my doctor (who's got to be the best doctor ever) came in and took over. In between contractions he and my mom would talk (which was fine with me because I was a little out of it) and my sister would rub my head and my husband kept looking at me like he was sooo scared. I kept taking the oxygen mask off my face and telling him not to look at me lol. So right in the middle of one of the pushes my mom's phone rang and she.....ANSWERED IT!! She was all like, "Hey, I'll call you back Lauren's having her baby." It's hilarious to me now but at the time I'm sure I gave her a nasty look. Then my epidural was really strong because my mom and husband had to hold my legs up. She kept rubbing my foot and I told her it kind of tickled so she let go of my leg and it plopped right out of the things that you put your legs on while having the baby. Lol. Then, at 7:48pm my little angel Adelyn was born. I just remember hearing her cry and looking at my husband and I'll never forget the look on his face or how I felt. I cried so much. It was so so so sweet. Then, something happened that I didn't expect. I started shaking...a LOT lol. It kinda scared me but they said it was just from the epidural and the changing of my body from having the baby. After the shaking calmed down though I was the happiest person in the whole world. I still can't believe she's here and I don't know how I ever lived without her. She's my world. Oh and just for one little extra laugh about another thing my mom did....after I had the baby and everyone was leaving she put her purse on her shoulder and bent down to hug me and her purse just slammed into my crotch area. RIGHT AFTER I HAD THE BABY. Lol. It's just a good thing the epidural hadn't worn off yet. She must have apologized a billion times. haha. I love my Mama. She's so funny and she doesn't even have to try.
