Aidan-John-Gregory`s birthstory
At my 39 week check up, I had a normal NST, measured 38 cm (fundal height), and had his fluid levels checked. Everything was normal, and my doctor asked me if I would like for him to strip my membranes when he checked my cervix to try and spark something. I said, `Sure!`, not really thinking it would do much since all contractions had stopped in the last week and a half. After he stripped the membranes, he said, `Well, you`re very dilated, about 5 cm. Are you sure you aren`t feeling contractions??` Nope, didn`t feel a thing. But he sent me home because everything else was normal. He said he didn`t think I`d last the weekend, but I was sure I was going to see my due date (April 3) come and go.
I went out to eat with my husband and my mother, and low and behold, less than 2 hours after I left the doctor`s, I was on my way back to the hospital in severe pain. When I got there, they checked me and I was 6 cm dilated and 75% effaced. I was in active labor! They gave me an epidural (which only numbed the left half of my body effectively so I was feeling contractions), and I put me on pitocin to try and speed up the contractions.
Once I finally reached 10 cm and was fully effaced (at about 8 PM), they told me the baby was still at zero station. I was given the option to try and push him down, at least to the point where the doctor could help me get him out, and I took it. After over and hour of active pushing, he hadn`t come down much at all. I was exhausted. They told me then that c-section might be a better idea, since I had GDM and they didn`t know how big he was. If he was too big, and got stuck they would have to do an emergency c-section anyway. But they were still giving me the option to try and push him out. Afraid that something might go wrong, and seriously utterly EXHAUSTED, I consented to the c-section.
With daddy by my side in the operating room, Aidan John-Gregory was born at 10:35 PM. I literally felt the doctor`s lift him out of my pelvis and then then there was this little cry. And then I cried. They held him up and I caught a glimpse, and sent daddy to go see how he was doing. All in all it went really really well. We were discharged two days later and have been enjoying him at home ever since!
