Alyssa-Grace`s birthstory
My boyfriend and I were watching a movie Saturday night, and I decided to sit on my birthing ball while I was watching. I rocked and bounced on it for about 2 hours and went to bed around 11. At 12:30am I was lying in bed and felt my first real labor contraction. It felt stronger and different than any other pains I`d felt during my pregnancy. Exactly 5 mins later I had another contraction, and after an hour I was having strong, very painful contractions every 2 or 3 minutes. I wasn`t able to sleep through the contractions, so I got up and did some laundry and took a shower. By 4am I couldn`t take it anymore, and we headed to the hospital. The contractions were so strong at this point, I couldn`t even talk to the nurse who was admitting me while I was having one! It was the worst pain I`d EVER felt. I went into a room to be monitored and checked for dilation. I was 2cm dilated and 90% effaced. The nurses told me they would come back in an hour to check me, and if I had progressed I`d be admitted. I walked the hallways and started having HORRIBLE back labor. There was no position or breathing method I could find to make it bearable. I was just screaming which made it worse I`m sure. It had only been about 30 minutes, but I had my mom call the nurse back and had her check me. I was now 4.5 centimeters and they admitted me! I thought I was going to die from the pain. I wasn`t handling it well and was starting to be very mouthy and hateful with everyone. The nurses were still sweet to me, bless their hearts. I asked for an epidural right away, and by 6:30am I was in a room getting prepped. My contractions were very strong and coming every minute or two. It was hard sitting still to get the epidural, but I knew it would be worth it and did my best. Once the epi was in, within 10 minutes I was feeling NO PAIN!! It was like heaven and I was sooooo grateful. I was checked 2 hours later and I was 6cm dilated, then my doctor came in and broke my water. Still feeling no pain but too excited and nervous to sleep. By noon, I was fully dilated and baby`s head was at a +2 station and my doctor said I was ready to push. I did not feel a strong urge to push at this point, and my doctor said that we could wait until I did to start. I started pushing at 1:15. I pushed for an hour, and the nurse had my doctor come in. I was making progress but slowly, and she offered me a c-section (which I thought was weird) or to use forceps and help. I did not want a c-section unless absolutely necessary, so my dr made the decision to use forceps ( I was exhausted and not pushing well at the end). Four big pushes and one huge episiotomy later and my little girl was born at 2:24pm!! They put her right on my chest and she started crying and so did I. She was perfect 7 pounds 1 ounce and 19 inches long. Her daddy and I are so in love with her, it`s just amazing :)
