Matheos`s birthstory
Our little angel arrived finally--on due date--with induction. In the morning I had a show so knew I would have gone into natural labour anyway. I chose to continue with the induction nonetheless as I knew it would be a short labour and it i preferred it to be controlled and in hospital. The dr inserted some tablets to ripen cervix and get contractions going. Within 40 min contractions started, initially mild, but progressed to painful ones very quickly. I called the nurse and asked for an epidural. She checked me and I was only 3 cm dilated. She called the dr for the epidural and he said he would be there in 40 min----I thought he was suppose to be on call at any time!!! The next 40 min are a hazy recollection of waves of pain that were coming every min, would subside for a min and then start again. Just as I was catching my breath from the one contraction the next would start. It took everything in my being to concentrate to get through each wave of pain. If I focused I could feel my pelvis been drawn apart and each contraction was just that much more painful than the previous one. The dr arrived for the epidural but when I was checked I was 9cm so had to get up and walk to the delivery room. i did not think I could make it as the baby was pushing and all I wanted to do was push him out. Somehow I got onto the bed, the dr rushed in and I was pushing like I have never before. It must be the strongest urge I have ever experienced. With one push little angel came to our world. I felt each part of him emerge. Somehow I do not recall that with previous births. A good description, as one mom put it, it felt like a ring of fire, the crescendo of the birth, and the head had crowned. Next the shoulder and finally the rest of baby slipped out. A little blue baby, no more than a handful. It always amazes me how small they are. It was a moment of pure joy, emotions between crying and laughing, relief and joy. Something I want to stay alive in my memory. My husband cut the cord. After he was checked I got to hold him and feed him. I thank God for this wonderful opportunity, I have been blessed with wonderful pregnancies, and births. A true gift.
