Gabrielle-Faith-Mounlavong`s birthstory
I had been having my normal braxton-hicks (or so I thought) which normally stop once I lay down to sleep. Well, Saturday night at around 11 pm I went to bed. When I layed down, instead of subsiding, my contractions got a bit worse and began to come more frequently. They weren`t so strong to make me think I was in labor, but strong enough to make me moan with each one. Just in case, I pulled out my watch and began to time them. I would have two at 10 minutes apart then one at 5 min then the next at 9 and so on and so forth leading me to believe they were the normal false labor pains I had been having for the past few weeks. I layed in bed for about 4 hours and they never got stronger but never stopped either. I took a warm bath to try and relax, but that didn`t work. After I layed back in bed I started getting chills and a little nauseous which was definately new to me and I started feeling as if I was going to pee myself with every contraction followed by sudden diarreah. That`s when I knew something wasn`t right, sorry if TMI but I have been constipated for the last 8 1/2 months so this was scary! I decided to go to the ER to have the baby checked on bc I really though I had caught something and was very sick. I woke up my dad and called my mom at 4:00 am and we were on our way. My baby wasn`t due for another 3 weeks so I didn`t even think to bring my bags lol bc I was sure I`d be sent home. All that was on my mind was making sure she was okay in there. We got to the hospital where they wheeled me to labor and delivery. I told them what had happened and they said it sounded like false labor but since I had not been checked for dialation yet they`d do it to see where I was. I was expecting to hear 1 cm or so but to my complete surprised the nurse said, `well it looked like you`re about 6 cm!` WHAT??? Holy crap are you serious! She went to get another nurse to make sure she measured the same and to make sure my cervix was open all the way through. To my surprise again...6 cm and I was wheeled into my new room! I couldn`t believe it! I expected my labor to be long and aweful and drawn out and here I was with only 4 cm to go! Then it hit me like a slap in the face...this baby is coming NOW!!! Then I called my mom to let her know it was the real thing. I thought she was going to hyperventilate...I`ll BE RIGHT THERE! I spent a couple of hours which actually seemed like minutes visiting with my family until the doctor got to the hospital. He showed up around 10 am and checked me again and I was 7 cm. He then broke my water and started me on pytocin hoping to bring her head down and about 30 minutes later I was in full scale labor! My poor father looked like he was going to be ill every time I started to moan in pain. Poor dad! My contractions were measuring to the top of the charts and coming about every 2 to 3 minutes. The bad thing was between each contraction...they never really stopped just got weaker. Finally the doc came back to check on me and offered me the epidural which I gladly accepted lol! I had no idea it would take the anesthesiologist so long to get there!!! I guess she was the only one in the entire hospital! I must say the worst and most painful part of the whole process was getting the epi. I had 5 contractions while she was sticking my back and I think she had to stick me about 4 or 5 times to get the right spot. After that, the rest was history. 20 minutes later my whole family got to come back in and spend time with me until time to push. I pushed for less than an hour and it was the most exhilerating and amazing experience I`ve ever had. I would live that hour over and over if I could. I couldn`t stop smiling bc I knew she was almost here and when they told me to push that last time, I have never felt such a rush of emotions. There was just a burst of laughter and crying and smiling! I didn`t know what to do. It was the best day of my life. Gabrielle was born at 2:12 pm, was 5 lbs 15 1.2 oz and 19 inches long. She`s by far the best thing that has ever happened to me.
