Harrison-Frederick-Buksh-Gordon`s birthstory

Just a quick post as just back from hospital.....gave birth by elective caesarian section 2 days ago so pretty fast turn around really! Chose an elective caesarian as I am a complete wimp and wanted to bypass natural childbirth, especially finding out my baby was on the larger side. Date was changed once so went in for proceedure half expecting it to be cancelled again. I was absolutely terrified about the needle for the anaesthetic....however the spinal used worked very well and wasn`t that bad at all. The worst bit was the local anaesthetic used before the spinal needle. My partner was with me throughout the surgery. I have heard horror stories about people feeling burning/cutting.....I could sometimes feel some pulling and pushing but nothing unpleasant and definitely nothing painful. I had the option of whether to have a screen up or whether to watch the whole thing.....i chose the screen but my partner went around the other side from time to time and was able to see my little one pulled out. THe first thing the surgeon said was `this one is stubborn` which made us both laugh! I remember thinking how big he looked when I first saw him. He was handed to me for a cuddle and S (other half) commented on how happy I looked! For me the clinical nature of the delivery took nothing away from seeing my son for the first time (although obviously I have nothing to compare it with). Was put on syntometrin drip as uterus was taking its time to contract and I lost slightly more blood than expected. Had a minor problem post recovery in that my blood pressure dropped to 60/30 and my haemoglobin dropped to 8.5.....felt a bit queasy at the time but both were quickly corrected with a blood transfusion and fluids. The worst bit about the experience was lying in recovery having a urinary catheter in, having a blood pressure cuff going up and down on one arm and having blood going into the drip on the other....it was so restrictive and I just wanted to get up and have a shower and pt some decent pjs on! To top it off I had our son lying over my chest as was unable to stand up to move him in and out of cot and was adament I wanted to feed him and that I didn`t want anyone else to take him. Luckily by the next morning I was back on my feet with vital signs and haemoglobin within normal ranges - and clean clothes! As for the recovery I`ve been really lucky in that I`ve not experienced anything worse than mild period pain/a heavy session at the gym, although I`ve taken the pain killers offered anyhow (co-dydramol and diclofenac). I`ve not really slept since, namely due to being in the hospital and having issues with my son not being satisfied by colostrum alone.....am hoping things will improve when the milk comes in! My nipples are so sore already and my beautiful boy has lost his voice after a 6 hour feeding/crying session last night.....he kept going back for more then getting so frustrated when he still only got a few drops! Anyhow, that`s me for now....my little one is starting to stir so will have to brave putting him back on the breast......I never imagined the pain I would experience from breast feeding would be worse than major abdominal surgery!!
