Summer-Leigh`s birthstory

Went for my 36 week midwife appointment on Wed afternoon @ 3. She noted that the baby had fully engaged and said I will probably be having this baby early, but I thought I still had a week or two left to go. At around 6 I noticed BH coming every 5-10 minutes but didn`t think too much of it since I was having them quite a bit anyway. At 8 I noticed they were getting a lot stronger and coming every 5 minutes on the dot, I was getting pain in my back and a very crampy feeling and pressure in my bottom. I called the midwife to let her know and she said she would meet me at the hospital at 9:30 to check if something was going on. Got to hospital and hooked up to monitors, contractions coming every 5 minutes at this point. Still not painful though so I wasn`t sure if we were going to get sent home! She checked my cervix and said i was dilated to 3 and admitted me! Was shocked/excited/scared at this point.. and worried bout bub cause I was only 36+3. Contractions getting painful now so I used the gas and air a little bit and I have to say, Love that stuff! Got an epidural at 5cm which was awesome. I never had one in my previous two births so this time I wanted to treat myself! My labor slowed down a bit after the epi so she stirred my membranes which picked things up for a bit but I was still dilating pretty slowly so she broke my water a few hours later. Things really intensified then and I noticed I was feeling the contractions on one side of my tummy. Also my right leg was no where near as numb as my left and I could feel a fair bit of the pain on one side. It was still no where near as painful as having nothing so I used a bit of gas and tried not to complain about it!!! Pain got pretty hectic and I started getting heaps of pressure in my bottom at around 7:30am so she checked my and I was a 10! Started pushing which was strange when you can feel nothing on one side and a lot on the other! I think it helped me though, I wouldn`t have a clue how people push when you`re that numbed up!! Anyway 20 minutes later my baby girl was born, with a full head of black hair, screaming her little lungs out! I noticed she wasn`t really as small as i thought she was going to be! She was perfect. Doc looked her over quickly but she was fine and she didn`t need to go to the nursery at all, she came straight with me. She`s doing really well for being nearly a month early, only a tiny bit of jaundice which isn`t that bad. I`m one happy Mummy!!! :)
