Rebekah-Lynne`s birthstory
On Monday my water started leaking. I was at the hospital first thing in the morning. They put me in triage for observation and to check to see if I was dilated or not. The triage nurses called over to my OB whose office is right across the street and he told me to come over to see him in his office. I was like oh no this means I am going home. Jonathan was on his way to work in New York when I had called him that morning and he had decided to rent a car and come home right away. I was like what a waste of time and money to rent a car and then I don`t even have a baby. Dr. Mall wound up sending me home because he said that it could take awhile and if I go back to the hospital I could be there all night with nothing happening. So i went home.
On Tuesday I went grocery shopping to walk around and I was having some pretty good contractions in the store, but I thought I am not going to the hospital to be sent home again. I went to bed because I was feeling really dizzy and I had a terrible headache.
I woke up at two oclock Wednesday morning with another gush of fluid leaking. I waited for two hours to wake Jonathan up. I told him to wake up and he just kind of grunted and then I said your going to be a dad and he said okay... and didn`t move. Then i said today and he was like okay I`m up.
At the hospital I was put right back in triage and i thought oh no there is no way they will keep me, but when they called over to Dr. Mall`s office he told them to keep me. I was admitted to the hospital at 3 cm dilated. I decided that I didn`t want the epidural... and I`m not entirely sure why I decided that only that I did. I did however have some nubain (or however you spell it) It took the edge off of the contractions but I could still feel every one. About an hour and a half after the first dose of nubain I started feeling terrible contractions. They would peak at anywhere from a nine to off the charts and level off at about a 6. I asked for a second dose of nubain and they gave it to me, but it didn`t help at all. Dr. Mall told the nurse to give me some demoral to try to help with the pain, but that didn`t really help either. (The demoral was sort of funny though because I was like totally out of it when I wasn`t in pain.) My contractions got really strong and just when I thought that I couldn`t take the pain anymore it would ease up... it was really neat that my body sort of knew what i could handle. Labor went really really fast and by the second shot of nubain i was 7 cm dilated and by the shot of demoral about 10-15 min later i was 8 1/2- 9. The nurse asked me to practice pushing with the contractions because she said these things take time and your a first time mom and we want to make sure you are doing it right and you know how to do it etc etc. So I started pushing and she was like that is great. Just like everything else the baby decided she was coming out quickly. The nurse told me to breath through the contractions to wait until Dr. mall came over from his office and I said I didn`t really care if he was there or not. He came through the door and said `well that`s not very nice` Fifteen minutes after I started pushing Rebekah was born. She weighed in at 6 pounds, 8 ounces and she was 19 and 3/4 inches. When she came out they put her on my belly and she opened her eyes real wide and grabbed onto my gown with both fists. It was precious.
Because she came so fast i had to get an episiotomy and the incision tore as well. After Rebekah arrived Dr. Mall was stitching me up and every time he put in a stitch I would say ouch, and he said to Jonathan there is no way she can feel that, and truth be told I have no idea if I felt it or not because the demoral finally was working.
We went home on Good Friday and she has been a really really good baby the whole time. I breast feed, and let me tell you that it does get frustrating sometimes when they are crying their little eyes out and won`t relax enough to latch on, but I am so glad that I do breast feed because it is the best thing for her, especially because of her being three weeks early.
