Malachi-Craig-Rose`s birthstory
Well... it all started at about midnight on his due date. I had not been able to get to sleep before 2am in the last several weeks, so the movement and contractions did not concern me at first. However, by about 1:30am I noticed that the contractions seemed to be fairly consistant and close together. I also noticed a difference in the way that they felt. I felt a ripple across my abdomen that would then sweep down to my thighs. After timing the contractions for an hour and finding myself contracting every 4-7 minutes I decided to call my husband who was at work. He rushed home and we were in the hospital by 3:00am. By the time I was admitted into the hospital I was contracting every 3-5 minutes. They hooked me up to the monitor and checked to see if I was dilated and I was a little less than 1cm dilated. They had me walk around for 30 minutes to see if I could produce a change. This is when the contractions really started to hurt. After 30 minutes of walking I was measured again and I was dilated to 1-2cm and was effacing. My doctor was called and he suggested another walk. This time I walked for an hour. I don`t believe I`ve ever experienced so much pain. After walking the hour I was remeasured again and I had dilated to 3cm. The doctor was called again and I was taken to my delivery room. By 8:00am I was in so much pain, I asked for the epidural. What a relief! By 8:30 I was given the epidural and the contractions were hardly even noticable. However, I spent the next several hours waiting to dilate. I reached an 8-9cm dilation at 4:00pm and was given pitocin to strengthen the contractions. Unfortunately, this is where I stayed. I did not progress over the next 3 and a half hours and the doctor called me to say that we had to take the baby by c-section. I was disappointed at first, however, happy to know that it would all be over soon. I went into surgery at 7:30pm and Malachi Craig Rose was born at 8:00pm. The hardest part was not being able to see his when he was taken out. My husband was there the whole time holding my hand and witnessing the birth of our son.
