Chance-Steven`s birthstory
On March 10th we went to my fiance`s grandmother`s funeral. We got to the church around 1 and I was having some cramping but nothing too noticable. The funeral started around 2. I was leaking through my pants by the end of the funeral and I thought that something wasn`t right. I had a bloody show when I had woken up in the morning and I had another while we were at the church. We decided it was best we went home right after the service. On the way home I was having more cramping...It was getting more intense. Once we got to the house I decided I should go for a walk to see if the contractions were going to really set in or not. I walked around the block for about 10 minutes and the pain was becoming more noticable. I went back into the house and upstairs to the bedroom to sit with my fiance. Well, the contractions really started to set in. So, we started to time them. They were 4 mins, 3 mins, 5 mins, 7 mins, and the they started sitting around 5 minutes...The pain became more intense. By 5PM I told my finace we should head to the hospital because I thought my water`s were leaking and because the contractions were becoming regular. We got to the hospital and the nurse gave me a room and a gown...I went to the bathroom to change and after I urinated I stood up and...about a cup of water gushed onto the floor. That was enough for them...I was admitted. The contractions started about 4 minutes apart and the nurse decided to check me...I was about a 3. Dissappointing considering a was about a 2 at my last appointment. I continued to labor throughout the night and around 12AM the contractions were gaining in intensity. The nurses continued to ask me if I wanted an epidural but I continued to decline, I only wanted one when I couldn`t take it anymore. They checked me around 1:30PM again and I was about a 4. BUMMER! The contractions were getting worse and worse and my finace was sleeping so I had little distraction. Luckily for me, my MIL decided to come in, she sat with me all night. THANK GOD! At 2AM I was sooo tired and the contractions were really strong. So, I took a shot of morphine to help my sleep. Well, I didn`t sleep but it did help me relax between the contractions...It didn`t help with the pain that`s for sure. I continued to labor in a drugged out state...My MIL went into the hallway to sleep in a chair, and Chance was fast asleep on the bench next to me. They checked me again around 5AM and I was around 5cm. Still only halfway there...I was starting to get discourged. I was starting to want an epidural because I was sooo tired and it had been going on forever...I was still upset..until 6:45AM rolled around and I felt an overwhelming urge to puke...and I did...projectille vomited across the room, waking Chance and his mother...and sending the nurse in to clean it and check me again. I WAS AT AN 8!!! In less than two hours I dialated 3cm! At this point the pain was INTENSE! I just kept my eyes closed and just imagined floating down a river. Chance`s mother started giving me a leg and foot massage and Chance just held my hand, placed a cold cloth on my forhead and they got me through each contraction. I didn`t tense up, I rode each contraction through and let my body go numb. 7:30 rolled around and the contractions were...NOTHING LIKE I`VE EVER EXPERRIENCED! So, the nurse checked me again and I only had a tiny bit of cervix left. It was almost time to push. So, they got a hold of the doctor and started prepping. I was just trying to stay as calm as possible during contractions...I was later told by my MIL that the nurse said they wish they would have videotaped my labor because I was so calm and relaxed through the pain...They couldn`t believe I was doing it without meds! I just knew I had to get through it to get to hold my baby. Around 8:45 the doctor came in and it was time to push. My doctor could not believe that I hadn`t had an epi either...Believe me I didn`t think I could do it but I`m sooo happy I did! Anyway, it was time to push...and Chance`s sister asked if she could come into the room. I welcomed her in, not caring who was there at ALL! His dad could have been in there and I would`nt have given it one thought! So, with his sister holding one leg, his mother holding the other, and Chance holding my hand I began to push. The nurse grabbed a mirror so I could watch. I didn`t know if I really wanted to but I told her it was fine, I could always look away. In reality that mirror saved my LIFE! Watching his head come out made me want to push harder to get him out into the world...I could feel him moving down and saw more and more of his head pushing out...My MIL and SIL were pushing with my as they held my legs...Everyone was just so inthralled in the labor it was AMAZING! After an hour of pushing his head came out...Little did I know the cord was around his neck so the doctor had to cut it quickly before I pushed his shoulders out...And with that Chance Steven was born into the world at 9:43AM on his greatgrandmother`s birthday...The grandmother whose funeral we attended the day before! He is a miracle baby. My finace`s mother, who just lost her mother, gained a grandson on her late mother`s birthday. It was just so emotional. They placed him on my chest and I began to sob. Just telling him how much I love him...My finace`s father was in the hallway and could hear it all and he said he was crying. We were all just so happy to have him here. It was amazing.
I tore right next to my urethra on each side and had one small tear in my vagina. So, I had to be stitched up. When I was allowed to take a shower I passed a blood clot about the size of the baby which was really scary but they gave me a shot to help my uterus contract and I was fine after that.
Chance is very healthy except for a touch of jaundice but it`s not even enough that they want to treat it. He`s eating great...Breastfeeding is going fairly well so far and I`m already able to pump. It was an amazing experrience and I`m so happy to have my little guy. Daddy is just in awe and is the most supportive and amazing person...I`ve never loved two people so much before!
