Caitlyn's Birth Story...
Best
birth I have had so far yet most worrying pregnancy. I started leaking
water 2 months prior to my due date and as this was my first baby i was
really confused as to what was happening. I had to visit the hospital
every week to be scanned and to check the volume of liquor around the
baby. On the Friday as usual, two weeks before she was due to be born,
i went in for a regular check up and as i was still having a slow
trickle, the hospital decided that the amount of water around the baby
was too low and decided to keep me in and induce me! I really wasn't
prepared at all as i only went into hospital for a check up. They
wouldn't let me leave the hospital in fear of me not going back in,
with me being so reluctant to give birth so soon. Neal came home and
got everything I needed for the stay, they put me in a side room on my
own which made me very anxious and i couldn't sleep at all. The next
day i requested to be moved into a ward with other women so i wouldn't
feel so alienated. Saturday morning, request granted, i got put on a
ward and was given my first dose of induction gel. Nothing. just gave
me stomach ache and made me a bit sick. 2nd attempt nothing! So
gas and air at the side of my bed, to help with the stomach ache (which
i knew was only from the gel) i finally fell asleep at 1am. Next
day same routine was planned again (one in the morning one at night).
Just as i had gone to get my breakfast, i was about to bite into the
delicious looking jam on toast i had made myself, a midwife came and
shouted me, Time for number 3! 3rd dose was given and then i was told
the next one would be my last and i would have to have a two day break.
So hoping that this one would work i laid down and waited. Started
having the sicky feeling again and all of a sudden started to fit!
Almost fell of the bed. Poor midwife had to catch me. I was scaring all
the other women on the ward so they moved me down into a assessment
room on the delivery ward, still having fits. It was now about 12:30
and if i can remember correctly i had calmed down and all the tummy
pain had stopped. I was given an internal and was 3cm dilated. That all
was my response! Neal and my neice Zoe arrived sometime between then. I
was then told i could go for a walk to see if things could get moving
and the midwife told me i was likely to go into labour that day i was
eager to get a little fresh air. When i got off the bed to take my walk
i couldn't, felt like i had this huge basket ball between my legs! lol.
They offered me a wheelchair to go outside. When i was sat outside i
was on the phone to my friend and all of a sudden i felt this pop and
then a gush! OMG what was that!!! For a woman carrying a baby sitting
in a very little amount of water that was something far from a 'little
amount'. I looked down and there was just water EVERYWHERE! It was so
embarrassing. Right in-front of my mum and my neice's bf it happened,
not to mention it being the end of visiting time for the rest of the
hospital. I hung up the phone, Zoe grabbed my drip and i got wheeled
back into the assessment room. In the 20 minutes i was out of bed i had
dilated fully. from 3-10cm. As soon as i got back on the bed i wanted
to push. I was confused as i hadn't felt ANY contractions what-so-ever!
I was apparently having them but i just couldn't feel them. Three big
pushes and she was out! This took about 30 minutes for me to figure out
as i had to work out when i was having a contraction for me to push.
Easy once i got it.I did have a little trouble as i had to hold back
once i had the head out when all i wanted to do was carry on pushing,
she had her cord wrapped around her neck and it was tight. it had to be
cut before she was born. I was amazed how quick it all happened. The
midwife was amazed as i had apparently pushed my cervix out of the way
without knowing. Total labour lasted an hour. Gas and air was a god
send for the ripping feeling i was experiencing though. lol. Born two
weeks early on the 17th August 2003, at 3:31pm was a healthy 6lb 7oz
with locks of thick black hair, baby blue eyes and perfectly pink skin
was our very first daughter Caitlyn!

Angel's Birth Story
Due
on the 6th of January! New year came and went...then came the waiting
game. A week past and a visit to the hospital assured me i would be
induced on the 16th of January. 14th of January, feeling quite flushed
and bothered, with a little bit of back ache, i decided to kill time by
wondering round visiting neighbours and family near-by. Night time fell
and i was ready to settle down in-front of the tv for a few hours
before taking a bath and going to bed. I started having period like
pains that were really mild. It was about 8pm. i was completely
convinced it wasn't labour! My cousins girlfriend came and sat with me
as she said that morning that i was going to have the baby that day! So
with Neal, my Mom, Helen and anyone else who was popping their head
around the door to check on me i waited for it to pass. It didn't! I
hadn't experienced contractions before so i didn't really know what to
expect. It finally dawned on me about midnight that it could be labour
and that i should ring the hospital to get a professional opinion. They
asked me what i was experiencing, by this time it was period like pains
with the odd break. Which i was then to find out was actually the
contractions people kept telling me they were! I remember i kept
saying, they cant be contractions, it has to be worse than this. I rang
my aunt who was to be my second birth partner. she arrived at my house
in a fluster all ready to go at about 1:15am. She had warned me not to
go into labour on that day as it was her wedding anniversary and she
was going out to celebrate! So i think she may have still had a little
wine in her system! She was quite anxious to get me to hospital and as
my contractions were often but not very strong the hospital suggested i
go in for an assessment. Off we went. Got to the hospital at about
1:45as ish.I went in they checked me and i was 4cm dilated. I decided i
couldn't be bothered hanging around waiting for my baby to go down so i
was up and about walking around, and every 30 seconds i had to stop and
breath through my contractions which i was still convinced wasn't that
strong. As i didn't see a midwife for about an hour after going in, my
aunt got a little concerned and called someone in. They saw i was in a
little pain so suggested i went for a bath. On my way from the bed to
the door i had a contraction and had to be held up. Then from the door
about 5 feet away i had another one and the midwife then got a bit
worried and got me back into my room on the bed. Gave me an internal
and i was 8cm. Almost there. It was now about 3:30 am. After my
internal i wanted to get back off the bed to try and dilate more but i
felt the urge to push, i couldn't hold it back and went for it. When i
had finished that push my waters broke. Honestly that felt like such a
relief. After that it was all go, Pushing for 35 minutes and out she
popped. Again cord round the neck but they were able to untangle it,
and seeing as he hadn't been able to cut Caitlyn's cord he didn't want
to cut Angels. After a full 4 hours in real labour our second little
addition Angel was eventually born, on the 15th January 2005 at 4:30am
weighing in at 7lb 12oz Looking just like her big sister but with
darker skin and lots more hair. Beautiful blue eyes and prefect little
fingers and toes.

Corey-Christopher-Hil`s birthstory
I woke at 6:30am on Tuesday morning thinking i was wetting the bed, turns out my waters had broken. After waiting a few hours to see if contractions would start i decided to ring the hospital and let them know. At 11:30am they brought me in and i was put on monitors for the whole day. I was examined at about 1pm and to my disappointment i was only 3cm dilated :( There were concerns about the baby`s heart rate as it was dipping with any slight pain or niggle i was having (not that i could feel any of them). I was then told if the baby`s heart rate didn`t even out i would have to be given a c-section. I was so upset and that was making me anxious and my heart rate became a problem. I then realized i had to calm myself down and just hope for the best possible outcome. This in turn meant that the baby calmed down and as planned i was allowed to give birth naturally. I was then put on a drip to get the contractions started. It didn`t seem to be working as it was only administering 2ml per hour to start with. It was upped to 4ml and still no contractions. Then the Dr came to see me and decided to bump it right up and see if we could get things going. So at 10pm they bumped my dose up to 8ml per hour and pretty much straight away the contractions started. They just increased in intensity and i was given gas and air. From then everything went so fast, about 20 minutes of contractions and then i wanted to push. I was examined and told i was only 5cm dilated!!! I then must have dilated pretty quick because within 5 minutes i was pushing and 20 minutes later out popped my beautiful baby boy! It was more than i could hope for although it was pretty intense and painful. lol. It was worth every second!
