just before 7pm, some friends turned up with takeaways for dinner. as i bent down to get some plates out of the cupboard... bang!!! contraction number 1 hit! there was no mistaking it. i managed to get thru dinner without letting on to our visitors what was going on, having 2 or 3 more thru dinner. thank godness they didnt stay for to long, contracts started coming hard and fast, called my midwife at about 9pm, she told me just to chill out for awhile and call back if things get quicker, at this stage they were coming anywhere between 2 and 5minutes apart, but real randomly. we rang nana to come over to stay with lexis, and within half a hour they were 2mins apart and really painful. nana arrived and we called midwife back to say we were heading to hospital. got to hospital at aprox 10.15pm. did internal and midwife said it was time to push. i asked for pain relieve but it was to late for that she said. baby girl was born at 11.01pm. took us 3weeks to name her. rivah (river) gloria alice buckingham. 6pd 11oz. breastfeeding was hard work. my first daughter took a couple of weeks to get feeding, and rivah took over 3weeks. but was well worth the wait, she just refused to take it, but we got there in the end.
