Birth Story

For starters i was contracting on the 4th of july. I had contractions ever 5 min apart for 4 hours, then they went away.
On July 5th my mom and i went on a 2 mile walk behind valley river center (local mall) To hopefully speed things up.
On July 6th i was woken up at 7:30 am from contractions, i tried to go back to sleep but it wasnt happening, so i woke matt up and told him i was having contractions and i just walked around the house. They wern't so bad that i couldnt breath through them, or had to stop walking, so i just kept walking around. Well i went pee and noticed there was the start of a very small amout of bloody show on the toilet paper and i though well thats weird, an i texted my mom an told her, an she said well just keep an eye on it. I got back into bed and just layed there for a while an tried to get comfy, but it was worse when i layed down. So i got back up and saton the couch for a while... well they ended up dying down in intensity around 10 am so i was like "yeah i knew it was nothing" and i went back in bed to go to sleep adn went pee again before i went back into bed, an there was nothing this time. Well i didnt really sleep because i kept thinking about wanting to have my baby, and wondering if today was "the big day" and i got up because the contractions started back up at noon. I went pee again and this time there was more blood, alot more but nothing to worry about, soi texted my mom an she said,. yes our in labor you need to go to the hospital.. well i really procrasinated because i live a while from the hospital and i didnt want to get sent home so i said, "yeah maybe i am im not sure im going to wait a little bit longer" so i took a shower, got dressed, sat on the couch with matt and disussed what we should do, he said its up to you but i think its nothign and i said well i bled with preterm labor so i wanna go check it out. So then i ate because i knew that if it was the real thing they would ban me from eating a thing, an we got our stuff together an went and returned some movies and made our way to the hospital. We got there an i was checked in by 2 pm. The nurse came in asked me some questions, and hooked me up to monitors and checked me, she said i was 4 cm dilated, and 5 days before i was between 2 and 3 so i knew i was progressing. She looked at the chart from the monitors and said, well your contractions are all over the place there is no real pattern and i asked if that meant i was getting sent home and she siad im not sure thats up to the dr, but in the mean time why dont you get up and start walking around. So Matt and i walked around the 2nd floor, i got on a birthing ball and came back to my room an hour later... The nurse asked me how i was an i said not to bad and she told me that the dr would be coming to check on me in about a half hour, so by then it was 4 pm, the dr cam in and checked me and said ok your between 4 and 5 and your 90 % effaced, why dont you walk around a little more and i will check you in an hour and the deal was if i was the same i was going home.
The dr ended up gettting caught up in and emergency c section and didnt make it in until 5:25 pm. she checked me and my contractions awere alot worse and more frequent but still nothing that i couldnt handle, i kept thinking well if this is labor what do women conplain about?! I ended up being 5 sm dilated and she asked me if she had permission to break my water and i said PLEASE! so she told me the next on call dr would be in when he was here which happened to be my dr and explained how things were going to progress and so on. WEll about an hour afer that my dr came in an checked on me and checked my cervix and said ok, your about 6 to 7 cm i will ocme back in and an hour and a half to two hours. By that point my contractions were bad, and they asked about pain medication and i said ok i think i want you to order and epidural because it takes about a half hour to get the guy there to do it. So i got up, walked around more and then came back, at about 8 the guy got there and started on the epidural... it didnt fully kick in until around 9, and my dr came back in and said things were going good and he would be back in an hour, well about 45 min after that i said wow i feel like i have to poop, i have lots of pressure down there, and the nurse checked me and said ok your complete! I said what's that mean? she said that means your going to need to start pushing. I said ok well how do i do that because i was numb, and i havnt ever dont this before so i was a little out of the loop. They told me to push like im pooping, and to take a deep breath before i push, an then to let out the breath and so on about 3 times per contraction, this was at about 9:45. At around 10:30 the nurse said ok stop pushing we need the dr in here now, so he came right away got things all set up adn i began pushing againg. allie's poor little head got stuck for a while and i wasnt able to naturally tear, which is the best thing, so he had to do a very small episiotomy, and her head came out. That was the hardest part because by then the epidural was almost all worn off so i felt it. An to have her head stuck right there for that long was hard! it was stuck for a good 20 to 30 min. Finally my last push was there and she was born at 11:07 pm on July 6th.
she was beautiful, i didnt cry because i was so busy just looking at her, and thinking wow, we made this together, this beautiful baby girl, and i was in awe! The dr said she had the fattest umbilical cord he had ever seen! If i had to do it over 10 times just to have her i would. I miss my belly but not as much as i love having her here! Our future plans are for me to finish school, thenget married and have more children but for now were good and very greatful for the one we have, we love her more than words will ever explain!
