Fraser-Paul-Jarvis`s birthstory
I'd been having crampy pains all day on the Friday but thought it may well have been another false alarm so didn't pay much attention. However come the evening things started to get progressively more uncomfortable and at 10pm I called L&D so they could call the midwife. As I was booked for a home birth the on-call midwife gave me a call and I explained that my labour had started so she told me she was on her way. My DH started pumping up the birthing pool and I brought down the towels and blankets we had prepared. The midwife arrived at 10.30 and confirmed I was in established labour. My own midwife was out with friends but has stated she wanted to attend the birth, so she turned up too as well as the extra on-call midwife. As the birth pool was filling with water we had 3 midwives in the lounge drinking tea and chatting! It was a very informal and calm environment. My own midwife massaged me while we waiting for the water to reach the right level and temperature. When the pool was eventually filled (after about 1 1/2 hours!!) I got in and it was heaven!! I spent the next hour and a half labouring in the pool with my DH with me for support. The midwives kept back, did not intervene and left me to labour as I wanted - without intervention. After reaching transition I began involuntarily pushing and according to my notes after 6 minutes Fraser was born into the pool. (My waters broke as I was pushing) We didn't know he was going to be a boy until the birth so it was an amazing and wonderful surprise. He was born after a three hour labour at 1:31 without any pain relief at all. I delivered the placenta within minutes without the need for syntrometrine so had a 100% natural birth. The kids woke the next morning to find their little brother asleep next to mummy and daddy's bed. It couldn't have been more perfect!
