My birth story

Well, I went in to the hospital to be induced on October 1st at 8am. I got there and was all set up and monitored and my doctor came in around 8:49am to break my water to try to get things going quicker but she could only scratch it as I was still only 2cm and she couldn't get the hook thing in there good enough to fully break it. Around 9:25am the first signs of my water breaking started and then I just continued to leak or gush from that point on the whole entire time I was in labor. At 9am they came in to start me on the pitocin drip. It was a little after 9am when I was finally started on it getting 10cc's every half hour. Everything was going good, no major pains that I couldn't deal with. The nurse said that the highest the drip will go is up to 120cc's and then you are just left at that to either progress or to stay the same in which case you would then need a c-section. At 2:30pm my final dose was reached at 120cc's and it was starting to get a bit uncomfortable but I was focused and just trying to stay calm through the whole thing so that I wouldn't cause myself to have more pain than was needed. Around 3pm they checked me and I was at 3cm which really discouraged me a bit because I thought I would have been farther along seeing as 6 hours had went by since they started the drip. My sister told me not to worry that that was great and that you could go from 3cm to 7 or higher in a really short time so that made me feel a bit better. This is where everything starts to get foggy with times and such..I really wish I would have got ppl to write it down but it just never crossed my mind while it was happening. We figure around 7:30pm they checked me and I was at 6 cm then which made me very happy cuz I knew I would have my baby pretty soon. An hour later I was really starting to feel quite uncomfy with the pain and was pondering the thought of a epidural but I was really struggling with it seeing as I wanted a all natural childbirth. I asked my sister what she thought about it and she just told me that it was up to me and that I shouldn't try to be superwoman so I decided that I wanted to try it out. The epidural guy came in a little while later and told me all the risk and how he wanted to to sit and such and that if I felt a electric shock or a lot of pain to immediately tell him so he could stop and ask where I felt it. He was putting it in when I felt a little shock below my right knee that just came and went really quick so I told him that and he said as long as it was gone that it was ok then. This was around 9pm-ish that he finished putting that in and they said it would start to work in 5 minutes and then fully kick in at 20 minutes. Well, it only ended up working on the right side of my body I could still feel the bad pain in my hip and rib on my left side (which just happened to be where the baby was laying still) and they said that at that point I wouldn't be able to get anymore of the juice for it because I was too close to having the baby as I was dilated to 9 by that point. So I just laid there and tried to concentrate on getting through the bad hip pain every time I had a contraction which was pretty much every minute for the last 5 hours. My nurse told me that once I felt tons of pressure like I needed to poo to let them know cuz then I would be able to start pushing. She also decided to just let me try a practice push and when I did the head was right there so she told me that I did great and to stop until the doctor came in. My doctor came in a little after 10pm and that's when we started to push. 5 contractions later my beautiful baby girl Helene was born at 10:25pm weighing in at a healthy 9.1 pounds and 20.5 inches long. She was put on my belly instantly and I was sooo extremely happy I will never forget that moment!!! She is amazing and looks just like me I think. All the pain and hours was worth everything to have her here with us now we could not be happier even without all the sleep..lol.
