Zoey-Bella-Latronica`s birthstory
I went to see my Dr on 6/9 because I thought I was having bladder control issues; it turned out my water-bag was leaking so he transported me via ambulance to a high risk hospital and transferred my care to a high risk OB to try and stop me from delivering. As soon as I was admitted, they assessed the baby & determined there was very little fluid protecting her and placed me on hospital bed rest for the duration of my pregnancy. They talked to us about the importance of giving me BetaMethasone (?) injections to accelerate her lung development in case they could not get my labor to stop. They gave me the 1st injection @ 5 pm on 6/9 and would issue the 2nd one 24 hours later. I remained in high risk labor & delivery having contractions every 5 min lasting up to 1min 15 seconds. On Tuesday 6/10, they gave me the second injections and told me to maximize the effect I would have to keep Zoey inside for 48 hours after the second injection to really give her a fighting chance at surviving. On Tuesday, the contractions were getting closer together being 2 minutes apart lasting over 1 minute. By Wednesday 6/13 I was not feeling any more contractions and so they transferred me to the antepartum unit to await active labor, their goal was to keep me until 34 weeks as long as Zoey was not in danger. After only being on that unit for 6 1/2 hours, I began feeling tightness in my chest when I tried to lay down. After an hour of this, they called for the Dr to examine me since her heart rate was base lining in the 180`s which they consider the baby to be in danger. Upon the vaginal exam, they could see the hair on her head through the speculum so they confirmed this with the ultrasound. She appeared to be in position & was coming out on her own. My husband was called @ home to return to the hospital & I was immediately transferred back to high risk labor & delivery for preparation. They decided to let me attempt to deliver vaginally since Zoey`s heart rate dropped back to the 160`s (what they consider high normal). I received an epidural around 3:30 am due to sever back pain but they couldn`t see any contractions happening with the toko monitor. I remained in labor like this until about 3:15 pm when her rate skyrocketed back into the high 180`s & low 190`s. The Dr advised me it was best to take Zoey c-section because she would only be able to survive under these conditions for maybe 2 hours at the most. We agreed and so they prepped me for a low-cervical c-section where they cut a horizontal cut on the belly but the uterine incision was made vertically. (Any future births must be a c-section and I will be on bed rest for the entire pregnancy.) They delivered Zoey breech @ 4:02 pm and took her immediately to the NICU for assessment & care. My husband was able to catch a glimpse of her arm hanging over the tray & could see she had a full head of hair. They completed the surgery on me and I was in recovery by 5:00 pm where we waited to hear about our precious little girl. At 5:50 pm, a neonatologist came to talk to us and let us know our little girl was on a ventilator and would remain there until she could breathe on her own and told us about all of the other risks & issues we will be facing. My husband was able to go see her & told me she was very tiny (you can see the picture) but absolutely beautiful. I will providing updates on Zoey via my blogs. Please keep Zoey Bella in your thoughts & prayers so that she may gain the strength she needs to overcome her premature birth with minimal effects.
