Jackson-David`s birthstory
Let`s see--I had gone to the doctor at almost 36 weeks and was told that I was 3-4 cm dilated and 70-80% effaced. I was incredibly surprised because I had only been feeling very mild cramps! She told me to expect my little bundle very soon.
A week passed and nothing really happened. Friday came and I went to work as usual (although I felt a little different that day). I had a few more contractions throughout the day than I had been having but still nothing painful. That night my husband and I were supposed to attend our weekend birthing class (about 30 minutes away at an affiliated hospital--as the class was a week earlier than at the one I would be delivering at!) We get to class at 7 pm, and as soon as I get there, my stomach starts tightening every few minutes (at this point, I still wasn`t convinced that it wasn`t gas). It still wasn`t painful, but it WAS tightening every few minutes, so during our class break, I asked my teacher about it. She said to be safe that she would take me upstairs to get checked out. SO--at that point I was 4-5 cm dilated and apparently having regular contractions (they weren`t quite convinced that this was actually it as I was talking through the contractions with no problem). Anyway, I really wanted to deliver at the hospital close to my house (so we got permission from the doctor to let us leave--he was VERY reluctant).
By the time we got to the other hospital, I was a solid 5 (still not feeling much pain) and within about 30 minutes or so I was a 6 (still not feeling much pain). My nurse suggested that I go ahead and get an epidural before the pain set in, so I took her advice and got it. It slowed my labor down some, so they gave me some pitocin. Luckily, this gave my parents and my best friend time to get to the hospital from out of town. I was able to sleep until it was time to push ( they let me labor down--where your body naturally gets the baby to a +2 station--so that you have to do less pushing). After 33 minutes of pushing, we had our little bundle of joy!
Everything went really smoothly with the labor and delivery, but then my uterus wouldn`t clamp down (stop bleeding), so they had quite a time with that. They gave me a few shots to help it clamp down, and it finally did what it was supposed to do!
That`s the story of little Jackson David (`Jack`). He`s our precious little bundle!
